I now know that I have a family history of thyroid problems. I know that I can run some blood test, but are there any other ways this be checked?

thanks in advance for any help!

There are many types of thyroid disease and many are hereditary. You should mention to your health care provider that you know of a family history of thyroid conditions and let him/her question you regarding clinical signs and symptoms. If you present with any symptoms of thyroid conditions then most likely they will order a simple blood test that will help them determine if your thyroid gland is working correctly. Since the thyroid gland is responsible for making thyroid hormone for your body/blood stream and keeping many systems in proper working order than a blood test is the proper way to determine if it is functioning well or not. Good luck! Keep in mind that just because there is a family history of a condition, does not mean that you will get it but it is always important to let your physician know your history.
