I’m so worried.

I was watching the news in the morning and heard that a new stuffy says that a lot of teens tend to be aggressive and suicidal while taking the Prozac.

I’m 23 and have been taking Prozac for almost 6 years.

All this time everybody told me that Prozac doesn’t harm you in the long run at all.

Should I stop? What would happen if I stop?

HELP

Shila my dear,

(are you the one on top?).

it was all over the news, but there is no reason to panic.

First of all, its not healthy to take prozac for many years, there is no argument about it.

But, the study you wrote about was done by scientist on animals (is that legal or what ???) and the little hamsters became aggressive after taking prozac, older hamsters didn’t react as bad (wouldn’t you ‘react aggressive if you were put in a cage and giving chemicals).

After that, it was down to the scientific calculations and assumptions – and BOOM , prozac leads to teen suicides.

It might be a right conclusion, but this study didn’t convince me.

All that said, I repeat, I don’t think that prozac is too good for you

My experience with taking antidepressants and bipolar medicine. I would stop taking it. Ended up in the hospital several times for that reason (stopping on my own). I don't get aggressive with other people, it's me that I get aggressive with. I'm always hard on myself. Talk to your doctor.

In the mid 80's I took prozac as a teen. Then it was the new wonder drug to replace lithium. I took for several months and at that time I was very aggresive. This is far from my personality. My Docs told my mother it was pent up frustration. However, my mother fought with them until they changed my meds and I went back to "normal" whatever that is. I've known adults who have taken it with no problem. I do think like all meds it is different for each person. However, I do agree that you have been on it for a very long time. I would discuss your concerns with your doc. Best of luck.

Prozac didn't make me aggressive. It just made me fat. I think it was the Celexa that made me really mean. Do discuss it with your doc though. They always have some insight up their sleeves.

I have been taking Prozac for a few years. It levels off and doesn't work. At least it doesn't feel like it. I have gained a lot of weight since I have been on it but no aggression.

Hi Rhiannon! I find the same thing with Prozac--a good bit of weight gain and very little help...no aggression but the weight gain makes me cranky.
