Well im not sure where to start....

My 11 yr old daughter has been dx as BP since about 6.

Currently she has been taking Lamictal 100 mg a day and trazadone 50 mg at night to make her sleep.

The lamictal as I see it is having no effect. She is manic, combative, narcassitic, self mutilating, depressed at times, aggressive, antagonistic, annoying, anxiety striken... and the list seems to go on.

I am sooooo tired of the medication changes that dont have any effect and the upheaveal the she and everyone else goes through at home during these medication withdrawls.

I am taking her at 3 pm today to see a new phsychiatrist for an evaluation, with hopes of straitening her out.

Recently she snuck out of our home early in the morning while everyone was still asleep and took off on her bike to a gas station out on a 4 lane high way... she was seen by a cop and he brought her home.. on top of the running off she had stolen money out of my purse to go buy chocolates. Which she seems to crave so very much..

what i am questioning is do I have the right to request this new doctor try a different medicine even though it may cause problems with her health, i say this because she has been on everything else that is known to put her on... and then some.

I want to request that the doctor put her on lithium and maybe give me a script for Thorazine that can be given when she is out of control and hurting herself or others.. I just dont know what else to do. I feel like im in a boat about to sink.. Does anyone have any knowledge of taking injections such as this when your symptoms get really out of hand?

Of course you have every right to request a different doctor. Having bi-polar, I made a request to switch phyciatrists about six months ago because my old one didn't give a rats ass. He handed me pills just to shut me up and our sessions were only ten minutes long (which I felt wasn't enough time to talk to me about my symptoms). Nothing he was giving me was helping me much at all. I hated talking to him to because he would give me these strange looks. I didn't like it.

If your daughter is still that bad, its time for a change. how long has she been on thses meds. If she has been taking them for longer then three months and there has been no change what so ever, its really TIME to make a change. I have been through 13 different med changes in my short three years of confirmed diagnosis. Don't give up, there is hope!! Be persistant. You thinking in the right direction. irishdana33

How is your daughter doing now? Has she settled some on the Geodon? My girl is 13 and is on Lithium, Abilify and Buspar but she still seems to cycle quite a bit. I haven't had any instances of her sneaking out (that I know of) but she is getting to an age where she doens't want to hear what mom and dad have to say all the time, so I'm afraid the sneaking out phase is coming. Lord I hope not! I can't imagine the terror you must have felt. Anyway, just wondered how you are getting on with her now. Best of luck!

Erica

We have had a bit of settleing down but not enough to really say that this is a change for her. She is still mouthy, violent, and having major problems controlling impulses, anger, and taking responsability for herself. I have to fight her just to get her to take a bath. It is really wearing me out. I have decided to et a job outside of the home so that I can have something resembleing a life.

she is on a low dose only 20 mgs. plus 100 mgs Lamictal, 50 mgs trazadone at night and .05 mg clonidine as needed for uncontrolable outbursts.
