Ladies,

Has anyone had or known of someone who got a tummy tuck after a few kids? I'm feeling well just a little discouraged about my after babies tummy.......... I walk every day, do crunches, run around after kids, and boy do I eat healthy. Sooooooo I'm think about takin a bit in

Is this procedure have a better percentage of good outcomes than the eye lifts? I have seen some pretty atrocious eyes after surgery. Does the scar show? Can you wear a bikini after?

Ok I guess thats enough questions in one post here, if you have any ideas or info please send it my way.

Hello, Kitters.

I do know of somebody that had a tummy job after two kids, and especially because I know her story, I strongly recommend it as a last resort.

Although I heard of horror stories about plastic surgeries gone wrong, I can't say that my friend's experience is a failure - not at all, her tummy is flat and nice and she doesn't look as she has given birth twice, BUT she's stuck with the scars for life, which in my opinion is a dear price to pay for the hastiness to getting back to a trimmer belly. If there are other ways - more effort and time consuming, but that don't bring you under the knife (cause, after all, surgery remains surgery, with all its risks and implications), I suggest you try those first, and persist, and if you really don't see satisfying results after a constant effort over a reasonable period of time, only then consider drastic methods.

The scaring largely depends on the extent of surgery (my friend had a full abdominoplasty and she has a very visible hip to hip scar on her lower abdomen, a little pinkish around her belly button) and, even though they told her she'd be able to conceal it with the bikini when she goes to the beach, it is still visible and it draws attention. It's been almost two years since she had it, and it's still pretty prominent and noticeable. They said that, with time, it will flatten and discolor, but so far... not so good.

This is just my opinion, and I'm sure you'll hear other people advising the exact opposite... the decision is yours, but it should always be a very informed one. Gathering stories from people is the best thing to do, in my opinion. This is why I shared this.

MY MOM HAD A TUMMY TUCK ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND THE SCAR IS STILL THERE. IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE. THE GOOD THING IS THAT HER STOMACH IS VERY FLAT...

JUST PICTURE A 1 INCH THICK ROPE FROM HIP TO HIP... WELL THAT'S KIND OF WHAT THE SCAR WILL LOOK LIKE. THE CUT IS PRETTY LOW SO IT'S NOT NOTICEABLE IF YOU ARE WEARING JEANS, BUT IT IS NOTICEABLE IF YOU ARE STANDING IN YOUR PANTIES. (MY MOTHER FEELS EMBARRASSED BEING NUDE IN FRONT OF MY FATHER NOW. SHE HAS BEEN WITH HIM FOR 26 YEARS AND THIS WAS A FIRST FOR HER.)....

BEST WISHES IF YOU DECIDE FOR IT...

Get several opinions. Check the doctors out thoroughly. Weigh the risk and the benefits. I and many many others were butchered by one plastic surgeon in Roseville, CA. If we all had to do it over again, we would't. See our stories www.medicalcomplaint.blogspot.com

Have you tried to talking to a personal trainer? They may be able to help you. Let plastic surgery be the very last last alternative.

Take care.

I had a tummy tuck after 5 children, because I had the last 2 by c-section, I don't have a much bigger scar than I did from the delieveries, but I couldn't be happier- It was done 10-06 and would do it again in a heart beat- no amount of exercise will un stretch the skin.

Sandy, so many of us experienced the same problems you have. I'm so sorry to hear you had to go through it. Unfortunately, some of the people I uncovered did not make it through all of the infections. Can you tell me, did the doctor tell you what type of infection you had? Was it MSRA? Hang in there and make sure someone keeps and eye on you and keeps a record of everything you go through until the infection is completely gone.

I'm a mother of 4 and had a full tummy tuck 6/8. I couldn't be happier. Yes, I have a pretty big scar, but there are a lot of treatments you can use to minimize the scarring. After surgery I used silicone scar sheets and plain old vitamin e oil. Before the surgery I worked out, ate right and did more crunches and sit ups then I ever care to do again, but nothing worked. Then I found out that you not only stretch out your skin during pregnancy you also stretch out your ab muscles and there is no way to put them back except through a tummy tuck procedure. I am 39 and I look great and feel fabulous. I don't care if anyone knows that I've had work done. I feel pretty, sexy and confident in my own skin. About the scar it's not much more than what most women have experienced from c-section births. If you are that uncomfortable with it there are a lot of different styles bathing suits and lingere to try.

Good Luck

Hi,

I am a 31-year-old mother of 2 who underwent a tummy tuck. I am 5'1 and weigh 110 pounds. After having my kids, my skin had lost its elastictiy and became loose. After complaining for so many years, I decided to go through with the surgery. I researched around 10 doctors and picked the second doctor I felt had the best credentials, as my #1 choice cost $3,000.00 more than my #2. The cost of the surgery was $8,700.00. I underwent the surgery in June of this year. I have had a few complications with my procedure. I have a potbelly that does not seem to go away. I went to the doctor to see why this happened. His response was that the fat from my upper belly is sitting in my lower belly, which makes absolutely no sense. Another time he told me that if I were to lose weight, it might go away. I have also been told by my surgeon that it's an edma. On another occasion he told me that he might be able to do some liposuction but it would cost additional money. This man cannot stick to one diagnosis. Unfortunately, it is now October, and I still have a potbelly. I know this might sound weird, but a month after my surgery I started seeing more stretch marks underneath my naval above my scar. I also went to the doctor and his response was "they were already there." Fortunately, I have pictures of my abdomen before my surgery and I did not have stretch marks where I have them now. Additionally, a month ago I started developing a rash in the same area where my new stretch marks are (below my naval to above my incision scar from hip to hip). I am very hesitant to call my doctor. I have sought a second opinion from a reconstructive doctor, the doctor was actually my #1 choice, and he has agreed to fix my problem, but I have to wait until January of 2008. He has advised me that my surgeon did NOT tighten my abdominal muscles. Of course, there is going to be an additional expense. In essence, be careful on who you choose as your surgeon. Don't let money be an issue. Pick the best of the best. I am having all these problems because I did not want to spend an additional $3,000.00 to go with the best surgeon in my area. Good luck!
