Hi,

I'm trying to find an online support group for breast cancer patients.

I am about to have lump removed and I’m worried as hell.

I don’t think I can handle a group support group right now, maybe after the surgery.

A link would be great.

J

I only know http://bcmets.org/.

its not really a support group, but a major source for woman with breast cancer.

I haven't seen any real support group on the net.

support groups is something we have in mind for a long time.

bcmets is very big and used by many women, but it’s a mailing list, which is different.

there are others, but mostly for a specific illness or problem. i don’t know of any big ‘internet community style’ support groups.

.....

i’ll get back to you on this...

Once again one of those crusty little lesions has appeared on my temple, one which I have forgotten to mention in my last two visits to my family doc.

The reason that I bring that event to this forum is twofold....

In the first place, it amazes me how blasé I have been about this stuff, because I am at an age (60) when, as my body's resilience to disease diminishes, I SHOULD pay more earnest attention to "crusty lesions" and other things.

In the second place, my musing over the crusty spot led me to do some reading about cancer. In that research I ran across an astonishing strory about a male victim of breast cancer. http://www.johnwnickfoundation.org/index.html

Although I still have the mindset that "Those thing only happen to other people....", reading the article has given me a wake up call in the matter of taking things more seriously.

Thanks, Y'all!

There are some different places depending on your particular situation, and even if it doesn't apply it's nice just to talk to others. CanCare in Houston, TX also provides wonderful support, there may be something similar in your area that you can get information on from the hospital. Hopefully you've found something since you posted, I just found this site; and I was in the middle of chemo when you posted and wasn't on the computer much anyway. Some of these are more "information" sites than chat sites, but that is also helpful. Good luck in your treatment.

http://www.gildasclub.org/

Gilda's Club is in many major cities. In Detroit it is a house where you can go for meetings, activities, ... to socialize with other patients/survivors/co-survivors/family members, ...

I hope everyone is getting the help they need! It so helps just to find someone in a similar situation that you can chat to. Even when your surrounded by lots of loved ones, you can feel so alone because it seem like no one truly understands.

I have found many people to chat with on-line; but one of my biggest supports was a child-hood friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer the same week I was. We could relate to each other a little too well. We were on opposite treatment plans, I did chemo first she did surgery first; so we were able to fill each other in on what to expect.

Hugs
