HI, I feel your pain! I'm 27 and have been living with chronic neck pain and constant headaches for nearly 20 years. I was taken to a chiropractor as a last resort for headaches and came away with a completely ruined neck. I cringe when I hear of anyone seeing a chiropractor. I too have tried everything under the sun, so many injections, blocks and medications. No doctors seem to grasp just how bad the pain is and how much of my life is passing me by stuck on the sofa, doped up and with a hot pack trying not to crawl up the walls! I have had so many contradictory diagnosis that I dont know what to believe any more. We are too young for such suffering... l'm scared that im destined to get worse and worse every year with no relief in sight. I cancelled my rhizotomy and don't know what to try next, every new treatment i try seems to make me that bit worse. I hate to hear of others suffering but its heartening to know i'm not alone, hopefully one day we'll find a magic cure!

It is heartbreaking to hear your story. You have made no mention of checking out Medtronics spinal cord stimulator. This is the device that Jerry Lewis had implanted after suffering intense constant back pain for many years and was addicted to the hardcore painkiller Percodan for 13 years before he attempted suicide at his lowest point in 2001. After surgery to implant the neurostimulation device with a handheld control he was able to walk for the first time free of pain.

I would suggest that you access the Medtronics website and look into top notch facilities like Cleveland Clinic that have broad experience in implanting Medtronic devices. Good luck!

I was told several years ago, by two neurosurgeons and pain mgmg. doctors that my case does not lend to the spinal cord stimulator. I've got too much arthritis in C, T, & L spines, along with metal plates, rods, bolts, and screws. Basically, I'm a mess. I have a friend who is considering the stimulator. It can help those who have not previously had surgery. There are pros and cons. I believe the amount of expected pain relief is about 50-75%, and you do have to have followups to replace batteries and replace morphine. If I was eligible, I'd try it.

I've had 3 spinal surgeries prior to having the spinal column stimulator implanted. I have one disc fused, and have several screw in my back. The stimulator has decreased my pain by at least 50% and greatly increased my quality of life. I've had it for 10 months now w/no maintenence or issues at all. I've had to change the batteries in the remote control one time, no big deal. I have to put the charger on my body (it's implanted in my left hip) about every 4 days. I think the newer ones you can go much longer between chargeing. Also depends on how high a setting you have it on as to how often you have to recharge, I think I must keep mine turned up pretty high during the day.

I am so sorry I was not a part of this group when you first wrote. I would have suggested prolotherapy as it may have helped when you needed it. I do not know where you are but I see many patients every day who are walking and playing pain-free as a result of their treatments. If you are not familiar with this you can check out our website at www.hdsmd.com

I hope you feel better.
