You know the sciatic nerve runs from your spine and down each leg, it's the largest nerve in your body, it's about as big as your thumb. I'm wondering if you have something else pressing on that nerve from your hip that's causing your pain. There are so many things that could be going on with you, have you tried a chiroprator to help? I think everyone has hips that are uneven and maybe yours are off alot and you have something pressing on your sciatic nerve? Just something To consider. Good luck

I'm glad I found this forum. I have hip instability, which means my hip will dislocate at random. I have had prolotherapy injections (which helped for a while) but the therapy that seems to help the most is chiropractic believe it or not. Once my ankle is adjusted in conjunction with my problem hip I walk fine pain free for weeks. It is all connected as my ballet teacher would tell me when I was younger.

Hi, Melmel. I'm glad you found this forum too .

How old are you? And when did this start?

I had a really bad experience with a chiropractor, he almost broke my back... Since then, I shiver when I hear about it, and I'm glad that others have better experiences.

Hi Sica, My hip used to give me problems also, and I had a really bad experiance with seeing a physical theripist at a pain clinic. He insisted that I had one leg longer then the other and every visit would pull the one leg out trying to make it even with the other. When I had x-rays done to determine the problem, my legs were not different lengths. He even argued with the head of the radiolgy dept. that they were and wouldn't admit he was wrong. On my last visit to the clinic, after 3 months of therapy I could barely walk and was in terrible pain. He told me there was nothing else he could do for me and left me like that. After much hesitation, because I too had bad experiances with Chiroprators went back to one and he had to keep shoving my hip back to where it was. There are lots of chiros out there and you need to find one that does gentle manipulations. I guess you need to do some homework in your city or near by city to find a good one. I have found that going all the time to the chiro can be a bad thing, but once and awhile might help you. Good luck in whatever you do.

Hi there, Koko. Thank you for your very nice words.

Hi to everybody.

I've read the story of a young lady here: http://www.mdjunction.com/forums/health-forums/back- problems/1693-rhizotomy

and she broke my heart. So young, so many problems, unable to walk or do her regular chores, unable to play with her children or help them around...

I was thinking maybe some of you, that know how a bad back can ruin your life, experienced and practiced, could give her an advice... or at least a good word.

This has saddened me deeply.

Hi

I am a 28 year old Female who just had 3 MRI's completed today, after a very long ongoing back problem. I had an MRI done in Dec. but now I am seeing a Dr. at Hopkins and he said this one wasn't clear and i tested positive for more potential problems so he wanted my entire spine checked out. Before this Dr. the previous MRI reflected the following: 2 herniated disks, spondylolithesis, 2 fractures on one of my vertabraes, disk degeneration, severe arthritus, spinal narrowing (spinal stenosis) neuropathy in both calves (that was actually discovered by a horrible test with shock therapy and needles... I have had 2 epidural cortizone shots and one facet block. All of which did not help me at all. As well as doing physical and aqua therapy since Jan 06'. I have a Rhizotomy scheduled for this Friday but i think I am going to cancel that and when i meet with the Dr. tomorrow to go over my 3 MRI's schedule surgery. I cannot go on living like this... any updates with your situation? Thanks Rebecca

Hi,

I too am scheduled for a rhizotomy this Friday. I am scared because of all the stories I have read on the internet. I have a degenerating disk at L4-L5 with a slight bulge. Had this problem for 15 years. Drs. don't feel I am ready for surgery, but the pain is the worse I have every felt. Been to many chiropractors, physical several lots of times, meds, even acupuncture. Nothing seems to be working this time. Tried the steroid injections which lasted about 4 weeks. So now a rhizotomy is being suggested. I have had long periods of relief over the past 15 years. My concern is if I have the rhizotomy, the problem and pain really is still there, so will the unfelt pain cause more damage to the area? (cause I won't be able to feel it.) Does any one out there have either success or failure stories?

It has now been 1 year since I had Rhizotomy and left side of my head is still numb and painful. That's my experience. You may be a candidate for a new artificial disc which allows freedom to move your neck, as opposed to a fusion with bone. I don't know where you live, but the neurosurgeons at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD, are doing this. (See SpinalUniverse.com) I am not a candidate since I already have a fusion at C3-C7 which limits turning of the neck. Now, due to extra pressure above and below fusion, I've developed all kinds of problems. The pain goes on and on and on . . .
