There really is no magic bullet for shoulder pain. Treatments should be targeted at the source of the pain, which means that you must get an accurate diagnosis, which may include arthritis of the shoulder or AC joint, rotator cuff strain, bursitis, pinched nerve in the neck, bone cancer, lung cancer, liver disorders, heart disorders, shingles and many other problems.

Diagnosing shoulder pain may include x-ray studies, MRI, EKG, blood tests and other testing.

Once you have a diagnosis, the doctor can direct treatment at the problem. If it really is a musculoskeletal source of shoulder pain, treatments may include:

-medicines

-physical therapy

-home exercises

-surgical repair

-shoulder replacement (as a last resort)

It is a good idea to get a doctor and therapist, who specialize in treating shoulder disorders without surgery. If you end up needing surgery, you would want to use a surgeon who does shoulder surgeries almost every day.
