Hi im a 30 yr old woman who has severe problems in my spine. I had my first surgery at the young age of 22 and it messed me up worse. I had 2 surgerys after that to repair the damage.

Recently i went to a pain management specialist who recommended injections to start with.

I have minor scoliosis, loss of lordosis curve in neck and congenital defects in my nerves some of my nerves grew together during development before i was born.

I had my first injection last year it did nothing for me.

Then last month i had 2 injections in the medial branch

it lasted all of 3 weeks. 2 weeks after that they did 2 more injection in my neck to help the pain there, i got some relief but i still feel some pain.

lower back pain has returned in full force and now dr wants to do the rhizotomy treatment and i yesterday had 4 injections in my lower back which were very painful and i have to go through it again in 2 weeks then if i acheive at least 50% relief they are going ahead with the rhizotomy.

I have told my doctor that i want permanant pain relief either by spinal stem or implantation of pump. He tells me that he dont think that is the way to go that i would probably only get 20% releif. And also says that the stmulator only works and is generally used if you have pain in your legs. I have lost all general sensations in the legs, i dont feel any pain. Atleast not in my legs. I cant work or do any kind of regular activities. I am afraid im making the wrong decision because of the dr saying that it wouldnt work to well.

If i do the rhizotomy and still am in pain should i demand that they implant the pump. I have been on several medications, physical therapy and even have my own tenes unit but nothing helps. I cant even sit up for more than 30 min at a time i always have to be laying down or sitting with legs proped up. LIFE IS PASSING ME BUY AND MY KIDS ARE GROWING UP WITH OUT ME ABLE TO BE VERY ACTIVE IN THERE LIVES BECAUSE IM IN CONSTANT EXCRUCIATING PAIN.

ANY THOUGHTS WOULD HELP.

A big hug and a big "I'm here for you", Wendie.

I've linked to your story in the other Rhyzotomy thread here (http://www.mdjunction.com/forums/health-forums/back- problems/77-rhizotomy), in hope that one of the people there would have an educated opinion for your case.

I can't say that I understand what you're going through, but I'm trying very much to.

When did all this start, and why?

this all started in my early teens when i suffered severe pain that started my first trips to a chiroprachtor. Essentially I have been going to several doctors about this for 15 years.

DDD was my first diagnosis. A bone doctor went in and fused my L5 and S1 vertebras and put and implant in to take place of the disc that was removed. after surgery i was in 100 times worse pain i told the doctor and he said it was surgery pain but it was not. a month later after being confined to a wheelchair i finally got a neurologist to take new MRI's and boy were the results astounding, the implant had slipped out of the spinal column and was free floating, i was immediately rushed back into surgery and the disk was pused back and they implanted a titanium rod and 4 screws but the disk had already damaged my nerves causeing me to have no sensation in my left leg. And little sensation left in the right one. a year later they went back in and removed scar tissue and also repaired the nerve bed and did as much as they can. Now i have Spinal stenosis and dont know if i will have to have surgery to fix that now or not.

Doctors warned me that with my first ddd being so bad id be lucky if i didnt end up in a wheelchair by i was in my 30's well i just turned 30 and can barley walk or sit im mostly comfined to semi reclining position so there is no pressure on my spine.

Basically all is the same, only my insurance denied my doctors request for the rhizotomy. So now im not sure what to do. On top of all this I had surgery on both feet to correct fractures and bone deformities. Im 6 wks post surgery doing pretty well. I just wish i could say the same for the spineal problems.
