MDJunction to me

jenniferdiva"MDJunction has been just an amazing support for me. The people who are on mdj are so nice! Unlike the many other support sites that I have been on. I have made several friends on mdj who are so supportive and so educated about mental illness. Of course non of us are doctors, but we certainly offer each other hugs, opinions, and advice. I have learned a great deal from my friends on mdjunction. I am also encouraging other people who suffer from mental illness to come on to MDJ. It can be a life line." (jenniferdiva)

Welcome to the group. We have a couple of members with the Grave's eye problems. i have been lucky to avoid too many issues with my eyes but i can imagine how bad it must all be. I know Grave's can be so tricky to deal with. I have days that my vision is great, others I'm almost blind. I get double vision too and my doctors can't tell me why. I had a time last year that they found fluid on my optic nerves but no cause for it. I sometimes feel I'm wasting my time even going to doctors.

Have you been seen by a good endo? That's your best bet for treatment. Hopefully that can bring you some answers. Also get seen by an eye doctor- you'll need regular eye exams to prevent further damage. Hopefully the other members with eye issues can offer some better advice and a bit from their own experinces. But I'm always here to offer any help I can and just to listen when you need to talk. Feel free to PM me. Also check the posts for the others that have the the disease part of Grave's there have been some recent posts and perhaps you can PM them too. Hope some of this helps you in some small way!

Best of luck and please post often. That's why we're all here!

Biggest hugs,

K

My left eye bulges a little, so I hardly ever go any where, I cry alot. I don't know how much more I can take. My eye specialist said it would take up to a year and a half before they knew what they could do about my eyes. How can I deal with this, I am so depressed?Sad

Diana, do you use any eye gel at night? I use genteal gel and it helps keep my eyes moist through the night. I know how depressing this can be, but I have heard stories where it does get better hun. We just have to be patient and wait.

I am thinking about getting the Orbital Decompression surgery done Dr said it would cause double vision then I would need to get another surgery to realign my eyes..

Did you have surgery done is that what is causing your double vision?

Hang in there. I am going through this journey too.

My husband has Graves and in March 2010, he began to see an oculoplastics specialist in Dallas who does the decompression. his thyroid labs were stable so in May he had his right eye done. Great results though still bulged slightly. After about 3 weeks of recovery back to work. then on July 27, he had the left eye done same doc, same hospital. but when he woke up the eye wouldn't move to the lateral field. Since then he's had 3 more surgeries on it and is awaiting another very soon. He has HORRIBLE double vision so he can't drive or work. We found a thyroid eye specialist group at Shiley in San Diego and Dr. Granet removed LOTS of scar tissue which was causing lots of problems but his eye still doesn't move to the left lateral field. He has soreness which may be due to adjustable sutures placed 3 weeks ago. Hoping for a miracle in July...he runs out of insurance at the end of the month so we have to have it soon. checking into disability.
