Hi stubby,

Wow that's rreally scary. I just had surgery 5 weeks ago and they took my whole thyroid and my rt lower parathyroid out in the process. My surgery was routine and I am hoping for a more normal future. I'm not sure even what to say to you I just wanted you to know that there is someone out here listening.

My endocrinoligist told me that the Grave's is a life-long Disease, and that future problems with my eyes are a possibility, as well as with my nervous system. I have permanant damage to my eyes already but for the most part I am well.

I just started the synthroid 3 weeks ago so it's not even working yet, so again, I dont know what to say except that my heart goes out to you...I know the terror that Graves' brings.

Have you called you doctor yet? Maybe you should see a vision specialist if that's something you can do.

Not much help to you, but i am here for you anytime.. not alot of action on this site so pm if you dont see me around and you wanna talk, ok? -Countrymouse

Good Day Country Mouse,

Thanks for the cheering up,at this time I really needed it.6 years ago I thought I needed glasses, went to an eye Dr.and she took one look at me and got a book and showed me what was going on.She then made a Dr. appt. for me and I went and talked to them. He requested a spec.for me in Portland,Oregon at OHSU. I saw them for about 4 years and it seemed that they were all to busy. Every time I went there all they would do is check my throat for swelling, and I continued to take my 18-22 pills a day.I finally took matters into my own hands and found 2 spec. over in Bend,Oregon. My first visit to the Endo. was assounding, I had never had a ultra sound on my throat all 4 years. The Dr. was very upset that it was never done and they did not ever change my meds. after a year if they wern't working. The results were not good by this time, my thyroid was so inlarged on my right side and it had a large growth on it,they did a biops. that same day and it was cancer. 1 week later they took all my thyroid.I then was refered to an eye spec. there in Bend imm. 6 weeks after my thyroid was gone I had one eye surgery to set my eye back into the socket where it belonged, that was 8 1/2 hrs. long. 8 weeks later I had the other one done. The reason it took so long is my eyes were so bad after 4 years my eye muscles were all stretched and had to be reconnected as well. It has been about 2 years now and my Endo. is still trying to get my levels to where they are suppose to be, and my right eye is starting to protrude again, which has my eye spec. baffold. He changed my eye drops 4 weeks ago, because my pressure has not changed in 4 months with the other drops, and my double vision is starting to come back. I am off to see both of them next Tuesday to see what can bee done or if the drops have helped at all. I have been taking Thyroxine 175 4 days a week and 200 3 days a week for 8 months, and the last test was closer than it ever has been befor, so I am hopeing for the best. Thanks again for the cheering up countrymouse and hope to talk to you next week after my appt. Happy Birthday, and enjoy every minute.

GOD BLESS YOU

STUBBY
