about a month ago i was diagnosed as being a glaucoma suspect. i went to an optometrist that i had been going to for a few years. he noticed that my right optic nerve was slightly cupped. in the previous visit which was about a year and a half ago it wasnt. my pressures were 20 in both eyes. he referred me to an opthalmologist, who then confirmed the cupped nerve and did a bunch of tests. the tests were visual field, tonometry, sonogram of eye, he tested the corneal thickness of eye which was normal. all the tests were normal.thank God for that. he told me that i do not actually have glaucoma at this point, but that i am a glaucoma suspect. he also told me that MOST glaucoma suspects do not develop it. i would like to know if anyone knows how true that is. also, when he did the tests he had me come in for an early morning appointment since pressures are higher in morning. one eye was still 20 and the other eye was 18 which is lower. i was a bit surprised , thinking that in the morning it would have been higher than my original pm visit. im wondering if anyone has an explanation of that at all . one other thing i would like to know. the cupped nerve is what is making me a glaucoma suspect. the thing is that, some people have cupped nerves from birth. mine is not from birth. so when this dr says: MOST glaucoma suspects dont develop it, does that apply to me as well since my cupped nerve apparently just developed in the last year and a half. the dr knew it recently developed. the plan now is for me to go back in july and then every three months, and if there is any change, i would start med. he is not giving me med now , because he said he would be treating a condition that doesnt exist and may not even develop. i do have a lot of anxiety to start with for which i take xanax, and this is really adding to it. i am also concerned about the treatments and the drops. some of the side effects sound frightening. i had also read that only about five percent of patients irises darken. my eyes are now like a hazel color with some brown and a kind of olive green. i would greatly appreciate someone getting back to me with some answers if possible, as soon as possible. thank you.
