I was diagnosed with Genital Herpes two days ago. I cannot sit or walk. The pain is so excruciating that I have not gone to work. My boyfriend has the disease. We have used, what we thought was, effective preventive contraceptive methods (I.e. condoms). However, it seems like the virus attacked me even though we used protection. It's a horrible feeling of not knowing what to expect and when to expect it. I have read several discussions and some members do not have painful outbreaks. This is day 5 of my outbreak and I really hope that it becomes inactive throughout my senior year in college. I do not need the added stress. However, my body tells me that I will get recurrences. Ironic thing is: I am a member of local STDs Preventive Group.

Thank you for reading my post.

I had the same problem with my very first outbreak...i couldnt pee it hurt so bad i had to go to the hospital and get a catheter the good news is future breakouts arent nearly as bad....i was diagnosed in 2006 and i havent had an outbreak since 2009 so as long as u take meds and try and keep yourself healthy u shouldnt have problems!

I understand exactly how you feel.... 1st herpes outbreak is definitely the worse.... try tea tree oil for the pain... it was a life saver to me... it helped cut the pain in half... also try pouring warm water over your genitals when your peeing.... that should help....

Thank you so much!!! I did use the warm water and I went back to work today. I feel more better, although the blisters are still there. I can walk better too. No more wobbling. I had a question. Does herpes make your memtrual cycle irregular?

Hi Kay. It didn't affect my menstrual cycle at all.. but I sure do remember my first outbreak. I was SOOOO damn sore, I thought I was 'healing over' and would never enjoy intimate moments again. Also had a very high fever - thought I had the flu too - then that dreaded diagnosis that changed my life forever. It's a hard one to accept hey.

Having a minor outbreak now - this is many many years later - just SO SO itchy and some lumps.. if I leave them alone they won't become open wounds.

The following ones are never quite so bad - just annoying really (VERY) - the biggest issue is knowing you have it - and that you can pass it on to others Sad( Not fair is it!

I don't know that medication makes the healing any quicker - others might confirm or argue that - I'll be interested to hear others' views. I choose to live through it - then again I'm single so it isn't going to affect anyone else.

I hope you get to feeling better quickly
