My daughter has not been well for 11 years. She had major surgery for a stage 4 carcinoma which, because the surgery was so major, left her with major digestive problems - she lost part of her liver, her gall bladder and part of her stomach along with a large external tumor on her stomach. She was given no chance of surviving 5 years and yet she is still here 11 years later! It is her wonderful spirit that has helped. Now, she has developed gastroparesis, and is becoming overwhelmed with it. She is exhausted, cannot keep down food and still suffers from the diarrhea which she has had since her surgery. She consulter with a gastroenterology group in Portland who were sympathetic but not much help. To complicate matters, she is fructose intolerant and gets deathly ill if she eats some by mistake. I have explored the internet and am not encouraged - I'm at my wits end and am afraid for my daughter who is desperately trying to stay together until her 6th grandchild arrives in the spring. I keep thinking there must be something we can do to help, but she seems to be losing her resiliency. I just feel better being able to share this with others who are going through the same debilitating condition. Thank you

Never give up! I have insulin resistant type II diabetes, fibromyalgia, herniated disks, torn rotator cuff, bursitis in my hip, shoulder and thumb, TMJ, ulcers, divericulum, constant bladder infections, COPD, chronic fatigue, had hepatitis...... but the gastric paresis has been the hardest to take. The nausea and exhaustion and pain is almost unbearable sometimes. Not only am I not losing weight my abdomin is so distented that I can't wear a bra. I am on domperidone now and it seems to be helping. If not then I will try viagra, and anything else they can think of. I am not very likely to be able to handle the pacemaker but I will try it if it is all that is left. I will get vitamin shots and keep taking the 4 anti-nausea meds. If your daughter has made it this far she is a fighter - even more so than myself. She will make it.
