MDJunction to me

Sylvia4648"I have suffered from depression most of my life, but had some long, non-depressed times. The last 16 years have been an on-going, constantly worsening nightmare for me medically, socially and with my family. 11/2008 to the present has been the worst time in my life, and new things just keep piling up. During that time I’ve gone from being mostly homebound to being totally homebound due to the errors of about 2 dozen doctors who overmedicated me so badly that I came home w/ 4 conditions I didn’t go in with. I spent months wanting to die, and finding MDJ may well have saved my life. It’s one of the worst feelings to know that nobody on earth needs you for anything; but now that I’ve been a group leader for awhile, there are people here who need me. Thanks MDJ." (Sylvia4648)

hi all,

i came upon this site while doing some internet searching for a friend. she has been newly diagnosed with gp, has been put on phenergan, which put her to sleep for hours. zofran which has a little bit of an effect and reglan which only made her symptoms worse. at this point she is taking in maybe 16oz of water and a popcicle or two a day. absolutely nohing else stays down. i hear some of you saying that your symptoms come and go is this common for symptoms to disappear for periods of time? she was just diagnosed two months ago and has gotton steadily worse. Dizzy

Hello & Welcome!

Before my "GP" progressed to the point where it is now I would (sometimes) go for days or even a couple of weeks w/just (mild) symptoms but for the last year+ it's been just about every single day! This condition/disease is a really horrible thing to have! I hope your friend finds the answers she needs!

Again welcome aboard & please feel free to contact me anytime 24/7 365 (Anytime!)

All my best to you & your friend...

Ronny

Mine comes and goes. The first attack was last year and it lasted only 6 weeks but this last attack was for 4 months. It didn't go away completely this time but I have good days for a while and then a few weeks of bad days. Right now I know if I eat something that I shouldn't I will pay for it so I watch everything that goes in my mouth. I still get full after a few bites so small meals are the best and I still drink the nutrition drinks when I am having bad times.

Mine also comes and goes. It was really bad in the beginning, but has steadily improved to where I mostly can keep stuff down. I still FEEL nauseated and I still get pain (have it today)in the abdomen frequently, but I can generally keep things down. The last time I actually had to throw up was last year. I try to keep one or two of my "meals" liquid. The rest of the time, I tend to stick to easily digested foods, even if I'm feeling good. But, in the beginning, very little would stay down, not even water. When I WAS able to eat something, it was a couple of bites of white rice, well steamed and 1 or 2 bites of chicken. That was it. Those small bites would keep me full for hours and hours. I lost 17 pounds in just 3 weeks. Now my symptoms seem to cycle a bit with once or twice a year it being bad enough to throw up. The nausea and pain are constant companions however.

I haven't been on the site in a few days.

I want to continue to let you all know that I am available for private messaging and questions. I am a physician/surgeon and I specialize in Gastroparesis. It is rare enough that your doctors may not know the most up to date treatments. Advances occur, a very notable one recently, but it takes time to publish the information and inform doctors around the world.

Ugh good days and bad days, but even good days mean she can only keep down 16oz of fluids and a few bites of watermelon in a day. bad days are nothing but sips followed by vomiting and dry heaving. Appt with the local gi doc in 9 days and we have to wait another month for an appt with a more specialized gastroparesis doc. reading other peoples posts helps......i think :/

talk now is of a J tube until symptoms hopefully subside....anyone with any thoughts on J tubes?

Sometimes sugary water like sweet tea or good quality gingerale (let it go flat so the bubbles are not a problem) may stay down better than plain water. I wonder if the new clear Ensure that has higher protein would work - may be worth a try. My husband can usually keep food down in the morning, not so much later in the day. I have heard that Klonapin helps with nausea - it is still very sedating though. My husband takes it for anxiety, so it is double the benefit for him. He stablized a bit after a month of severe gastroparesis, maybe partially due to Reglan although it doesnt really seem to work. A little bit is better than nothing, so he still is taking it.

hi dawnne, my friend is also taking klonapin for anxiety, it does help a bit with the nausea. shes not doing well with anything sweet, the doc had her try a medical supplement called vital 1.5 it is similar to an ensure type drink that is supposedly easily digested, she is actually having some luck with it. unfortunately she ended up hospitalized this weekend. dehydration and a low potassium level Sad fortunately the iv zofran and hydration they gave her gave her a couple days rest from vomiting. hugely frustrating!!!!

always hoping that tomorrow will be a better day. thanks for responding!

For me, it cycles. There can be months where I am fine and then it comes back with a vengeance. I've heard this is common. If your friend is vomiting for more than 48 hours, take them to the hospital because they can give fluids through an IV and dehydration can be dangerous. It might not help the vomiting but it will help the immune system
