Just a few thoughts on cosmetic surgery post gastro bypass surgery. I know that in some circumstances some of the recipitants ned to have skin removal for health issues. That is understandable, but what about personal "vanity" ? when you look at yourself now that you are skinny and still see an ugly person, just not overweight? There is not many options for this situation in the financial area. This not being a medical condition it does not fall under insurance help. So I feel appearance wise that it was a trade off from one real uncomfortable appearance to an unappealing appearance.

I hate the the way I look when I want to be intimate with my husband. If you seen "Something about Mary", you know the scene with the naked old lady, well that is me flat and saggy. I use to be plump and full. I and being in a postion where the other excess flab changes when you are fooling around does not make mating very enjoyable. I look reall good with clothes on and I did not have any costmetic surgery to alter myself. It can be very depressing not feeling sexy naked. Wondering what my husband sees and how it might turn him off.

I am sorry, I did not mean to get on a tandrum. Is surgury the real answer to this problem? I am still very young and would like to look that way too a t least when I am naked. I have seen the cosmetic surgery that othe gastro bypass patients have had. I get freaked out that the doctor is going to tear my apart and tell me ther are more areas of ugliness to be repaired than what I am looking at. I don't know how I can handle that. Besids that , the idea of another surgery does not appeal some much now or the cost of my own personal vanity. Cappy

Cappymuir, thanks for your post. I too am worried about this. I have hanging skin from 3 cesareans already, and to add weight loss??? I'm not sure how I'll look. I think we need to work together and figure out how to get insurance to pay. If you go from being unhealthily overweight, to skinny but depressed - doesn't that count for a health concern? I know that I have times when I'm really itchy near my cesarean scar and sometimes get sores. This most definitely is a health concern.

I've written grants, does anyone know how to write in the politically arena? We need to get something started. You know, alcoholics drink; however there are programs out there to help them recover and this isn't any different.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Dawnette
