MDJunction to me

Hazeldee"MDJunction means that I no longer have to feel like I am the only person in
the world with pericarditis. It means that I can talk to others who know
how stressful and how painful having pericarditis can be. It means that I
connect with others to discuss treatments that have or haven't worked for us, so that we have a leg to stand on. I think that having my friends at
MDJunction has allowed me to better mentally and emotionally process my
diagnosis and what it means to me. I feel so lucky to have this community
available to me. I use MDJunction as a way to use my experience to help
others. Reaching out to help others is the only solace I have found since
being diagnosed with pericarditis.

You need to deal with the issues that caused you to gain the weight in the first place. Without dealing with those emotional issues, it's going to be very hard for you to keep the weight off. Remember, the surgery is just a tool...you have to do your part. Do you have a support group in the area? Check in with your doc and nutritionist to help get yourself back on track. Try keeping a journal of what you eat and how you feel leading up to it. You might have to do some deep soul searching, but sounds like you might need that. If you can afford it, some professional counseling may also help.

I've heard some people doing a mini-version of the diet from Stage 1-4 with a week at each stage. Supposedly it helps to reset your pouch. Give that a try.

Stick with us in the group and we'll help you through this. Smile

JB is totally right, you do need to address the emotional side. Something is making you eat, you're trying to use food to mask or block some life events or memories or something that your conscious state can't seem to address head on. So, it's driving you to block it by food.

You can't ever have surgery and no mental health support. It never works. You do need some help with those issues. You need support through it, address what has happened, which emotional events are driving you to over eat.

Until you get counselling of some sort, to discover why you became so overweight in the first place, you will always struggle

Thank you both! JB about stages 1-4 you mean all protein liquids? I am going through some through a lot of stress right now so I am finding that comfort again in food! I am meeting with my surgeon soon to talk about my options before its too late.

All docs are different, but most people have a pre-op diet (liquids), post-op (liquids), post-op (soft), and post-op (start experimenting with soft-"normal"). It seems to help reset the pouch and brain of what it needs to do.

You need to figure this out and get through it, because I'm afraid that's what will happen to me!! So, to see someone struggle and then let us know how they conquer or fail, helps us all to learn--then we can all succeed!

Personally, I'm holding myself to never going above 160 lbs again. If I hit that number, pouch reset is my Plan A. You're still under 20 lbs gained, so I hope you nip this in the bud. Get some encouragement, remotivation, and take a look at what's going on in your life. Learn from it and get better. I know you can do it.

But, please please please promise me that even if you still struggle, please don't leave us. We need to support each other through thick and thin. We need role models and we will never let you feel shame for having trouble keeping the weight off. We are always here for you...for each other. (((HUGS)))
