This morning I thought I had a tiny hair poking out of one of my incisions. When I went to pluck the hair, it stretched... and didn't come out. Turned out to be a piece of plastic something. So I called the doctor.

Of course they wanted me to come in to check it out. So I drove the hour and a half to the office to be seen.

It turned out to be one of the internal sutures. The suture end has worked its way out through my incision. The doctor put antibiotic ointment and a bandaid on it. He said it happens sometimes and that the suture will dissolve internally and the part sticking out will either dissolve or fall out one day.

Needless to say - it was a bit distressing to find something poking out like that.

By the way --- I weighed in at 228 today. That's 14 lbs lost in less than 3 weeks.

If you had it to do all over again, would you?

Wow,

I am glad they put your mind at rest, and you could at least calm down knowing it was ok. I think you did the right thing, I would have driven double that if I needed to, just to be able to know I was ok.

Funny, but they used a strong glue on my incisions, and not stitches.

I have something from the Wiki site on it, so it seems quite common that the glue is used now, it is in the UK anyway.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanoacrylate

Butyl cyanoacrylate has been used medically since the 1970s outside the US, but due to its potential to irritate the skin, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration did not approve its use as a medical adhesive until 1998 with Dermabond.[10] Research has demonstrated the use of cyanoacrylate in wound closure as being safer and more functional than traditional suturing (stitches).[11] The adhesive has demonstrated superior performance in the time required to close a wound, incidence of infection (suture canals through the skin's epidermal, dermal, and subcutaneous fat layers introduce extra routes of contamination),[11] and final cosmetic appearance.[12][13]

Yeah - my doc uses both... the glue and the sutures. The sutures are on the inside and dissolve on their own over about 6 weeks.

Sometimes the stitches poke through and aggravate the skin--normal! Seems like they could have told you that over the phone, though. But, better safe than sorry. Woohoo on the 14 lbs! Smile

ok, makes a note, using Code on here makes the page go all funny Smile Just corrected that now.

24 months down the line, my small scars have totally faded, and you can hardly see 3 of them now. I have been using Bio Oil on them, and it seems to be doing the trick well

Code? Is that what happened? My page was all messed up and I couldn't figure out why. lol My scars are healing nicely, too. I use a scar cream though. Love it! Smile

Yes Smile you can use BBCode and HTML but sometimes, it affects the page layout, and it did on here. Sorted now.

I know, that lotion is brilliant! It really works. I have been using it on old stretch marks too, which are vanishing each day

Great to know about the cream. My incisions are not fully healed, yet, so I'm careful what I put on my tummy. I'll be glad when they are done and all healed over. I'm not really concerned about scars so much.

I've had 2 C-Sections, so I already have 2 scars that run the length of my tummy - down by my bikini line. I have 2 adorable girls to show for those scars, though... lol.

If you had it to do all over again, would you?
