For the past several weeks, everytime i stand up / bend down or stoop I get really really dizzy and feel as though im going to pass out. I have to grab hold of something to steady myself and cant see anything... It only last for about 30 seconds... but its EVERY time. I am 5 months out of surgery and have lost 87 lbs.... Has anyone else had problems with this? What is the cause?

Hi Mandy,

Generally speaking, extreme dizzyness like that is caused by one of three things. Either:

o Your blood pressure has gone too high. This is quite common with post surgery patients, because eating is quite eratic and generally, our exercise levels increases which will have a temporary increase. So, that's something you do need to keep an eye on, and sometimes you need short term medication to keep it in check.

o Another cause can be you're not drinking enough water. You should still be aiming to drink at least a large bottle of water a day, because you could be dehydrated. You should look at what liquids you're taking, and if it's not enough, increase it for a few days and see if it helps. Usually, with that, you can get headaches as well, so it's worth looking at this.

o Another reason can be an ear infection. Also, an infection can actually cause the high blood pressure, so it could be connected with the first observation.

Have a think about the liquids, and if it's not that, if you're drinking enough, my advice is to pop to the dr and have your BP checked. That may trigger a few more tests, but it's a good thing because it's better sorted

thanks. I know my blood pressure is good. I had high BP and was on meds until about a month out of surgery. Since have stopped meds and blood pressure has been normal. Check it daily. SO i dont know. I guess i should call the doc... i dunno. I will try drinking more and see if it helps first.
