Treatment of the manifestations of Gardner syndrome depends on whether the nature of the cysts is symptomatic or cosmetic and their location. Treatment is similar to that used for ordinary cysts - excision12 or use of intralesional steroids if the cysts are inflamed.

Surgical Care is available:

* Colectomy13 is available for the treatment of Gardner syndrome patients if 30 or more polyps are detected on colonoscopy or if biopsy results reveal dysplasia or malignant degeneration.

* Usually, cutaneous findings do not require treatment.

* Osteomas can require excision if they are severely deforming.

* Rectal mucosal resection is to be examined.
