I have been a constipation sufferer for quite a few years now. Considering all the medication I've been on for my fm, anxiety & depression, as well as some pain meds for a number of things, I figured constipation was a small price to pay. I recently decided that enough is enough! I had tried over the counter things in the past, the powered stuff, diet changes, lots of fluids...all sorts of things. I only eats small amounts at meals and suffer from extreme abdominal pains soon thereafter. I had had an unsuccessful colonoscopy a while back, I just couldn't clean out properly. My family doc recommended an anoscope from a gastro doc and all they could tell me from there was that my hemmies are pretty bad. I suppose that kinda goes hand in hand with chronic constipation, right? Suprisingly enough after just a little over a week, the metamucil caps are actually moving things around for me! It's about time... I still have the abdominal pains after I eat and now also after I have a BM and to go along with that my tummy makes some really angry noises. I suppose it's the sounds of movement, I am so unfamiliar to.

Hi MB

Haven't seen you post for a while. My IBS is totally unpredictable. For many years I had only diarrhea and could barely leave my house. If I absolutey had to be somewhere, Imodium was my best friend. A couple of years ago it changed to constipation. . .I used to think I would prefer the C over the D but, nope, they are equally disfunctional. Now I, too, have nasty hemmies. Just can't win! The powdered Metamucil makes me nauseous, maybe I'll try the caps, too. Hope you are feeling better!

The metamucil caps have been doing wonders for me. I'm really surprised. I've tried powdered stuff in the past, but like you, they only make me nauseous. The only problem I'm having now is abdominal pains from all the new movement going on in there. It's almost like I can feel the intestinal ripple effect going on. It's really weird, and my tummy has been making all sorts of new noises lately. Sounds like I have an angry monster in there. If you try the caps, I hope they are as helpful to you as they have been for me!

I have suffered with chronic constipation since I was in third grade so I know how you feel. I have had almost everything you can think of and I still deal with it on a day to day basis!Even though some days are better than others. My tummy is getting agervated now because I know I need more calcium in my diet and I have not eaten cheese since third grade! I am having to put cheese back in to my diet because I know that if I dont get any calcium I will develop worse problems. Anyways from doing all this my digestive system is all wacky.

Any suggestions - I have had the urge to go have a B.M. and then only gas escapes. And then - later tons comes out - it hurts. I have ovarian cysts which makes going to the bathroom hurt even more. Any suggestions?

I would talk to your doctor about that. But it sounds like constipation - maybe try a stool softener. Good luck Hun! Keep us updated!
