Welcome,

Hi my name is chickiepoo and I am the group leader here for the teen site. I will not lie I am 36, but qualified for the job because I got fibro. when I was 12. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 17. After missing a lot of school and everyone thinking I just wanted out of school. I spent days in the counselors office(we had no full-time nurse). She thought I was trying to get out of a test or something. I was depressed, but my parents had no clue. In high school I started having numerous appendages hurt. I ended up with casts and braces on me once even a few at the same time. I looked like I had been hit by a truck. Anyway I am married and have two boys.(16yrs. married) I have a papillon(dog) that just had two puppies. And I like to help others. If you need anything or have questions I will try to answer them to the best of my ability. Feel free to personal message me anytime!

Sincerely,

chickiepoo

Like you I missed out on alot of my schooling and people have thought im trying to get out of things. I have been told im lazy, or that im trying to make people feel sorry for me by faking this. I havent had friends or relationships cuz im not fun anymore. You still have a life. How are you doing it? What can I do to get my life back to me?

Hanalynice,

Hey sweetie, I wish I could tell you it was easy. Or that it gets easier as you get older, but I can't. To tell you the truth I have a hard time keeping up with friends. Believe it or not we FMSers tend to become recluses. After a while it gets easier to just stay home and not do anything. You start to realize that when your friends ask how you are they really don't want to know everything that is hurting you. I even have a friend who trys to out do me. Like what she feels is worse than I have. She doesn't have any disease. She may ache a little, but she has no idea. I'm afraid they will never understand unless they get something simular. I know you are young, so the best advice I could give you is try to educate your friends. Also remember they don't want to hear about it all the time though, even through they say they do. After a while it gets old. I'm being brutally honest. There are great friends out there who won't dump you for being sick. You just have to hunt for them. I may have a life, but it is nothing like I had dreamed of. These days I do what I can to make it thru the day. I don't know if I told you, but I homeschool too. So I teach around taking a nap everyday. With all the med's I have to. And I do gather all the strength I can to make a dinner for my husband and family each night. Sometimes I call him and tell him I had a bad day and we need to make an alternate plan for dinner. I do my best to get all the subjects that I can crammed into each day. Another thing pace yourself, get to know what you can and can't do. Keep a journal if you need to, to keep track of your symptoms and find out what triggers a flare up. That way you will know when you need to take extra care of yourself. If you have trouble with memory problems I write a lot of things down. I spray painted one of those chalkboards on the wall. It's nice and big. I have it divided into two sections groceries and things I need to do. Well I gotta go. Time to get my 6 yr. old to bed. Take care.

Love ya,

chickiepoo

hi hana! i am also 18 and got diagnosed around 15ish. for me, doctors never told me to my face that they thought i was a hypochondriac. i could sense it though. they would keep telling me to try all these different pills and to exersice that i was just inactive (i had been a cheerleader for 3 years) i had multiple mris and cat scans and xrays and blood tests. finally my mom asked for a referral to Mayo clinic in Minnesota. There i got diagnosed with Fibro and Asthma. The sad thing is nothing really has changed. I am still know as the girl who always is sick or hurt or cant stay out late. But you know what?? i still have friends. I have friends right here on MDJ who know how im feeling. i have friends at my school who dont. but you just have to weed through until you find that beautiful flower. that flower may wilt after a while and you may have to weed through again. or that flower may stay with you for the rest of your life.

Hope this helps and please pm me if you ever need anything
