Hey guys, I'm new here, just signed up, and thought it would be worth a shot to ask. Has anyone else had bouts of a joint just plain out not working??? My left hand stopped working in august/september. The fingers worked for the most part but it was very painful, but I couldn't play 4-mallets in band, even while the instructors kept making me play as much as possible. My right knee gave out also through november, and still hurts a LOT. I couldn't walk, sit in a classroom, nothin. The best I could do was get through five minutes on the couch without screaming. When I was in school I took my dose of pain meds every four hours on the dot to keep from screaming. No one can give me a answer so far.....has anyone encountered this before??? if so....what is it? how can it be fixed, or do you just live with it forever??

hey sandy girl,

i think it probably could be tightness in the muscles and fascia. (try pressing lightly on your muscles on the areas that hurt, do they feel tight and hard or lie normal muscles?) this can press on the nerves a bit and you add fibro to the mix and your not going to feel very good. just a guess though. do you stretch or do exersize? that helps alot, but you HAVE to stick with it. also, what pain meds are they? strong stuff isnt generally good for fibro but its considered suitable if you have a flare-up. i'm not a doctor (but i have fobro and some other stuff) so if this isnt helpful or if its wrong sorry bout that.

I suggest something that I am SURE you are sick of hearing but I have proof it works. Excersise. But I promise it's not the nasty kind that makes us fibromites cringe! It's very relaxing soothing warm water physical therapy. I've done it, my best friend who has fibro has done it and now she's in full remission! It is so gentle and because it is warm water it loosens up your muscles. I had the same problem as you and with the gentle excersises and the warm water it has helped so much!!! I hope you aren't fed up with people saying to exercise but there are so many wonderful stories about People recovering from fibro with the help of this exercise! Even if it dosent "cure" you its most likely going to make you feel at least a little bit better!

Feel better soon!!!!!

It's the tight-muscles loose joints combo. It's now spread from just my right knee, to both knees, an now both hips. The fibro makes the muscle give out quickly when I try and excersise and I literally am unable to use the joint. If I have a side of my hip collapse, I completely unable to use that leg. I was on tramadol but it hasn't helped at all so now I'm on vicodin. They said it's acceptable in my case because I can distinguish when it's fibro pain (typically minor and I just try to ignore it) and when it's a joint giving me pain because the joints getting close to a collapse, or if the fibro just gets into the muscle and screws with the joint. Point is, know when it's genuine joint pain (the only time I actually yak the vicodin) and when it's just my fibro. I think it could be a bit of arthritis building up in the joints, but every single blood test they do come back negative. I'm hoping to be able to coax out a major flare up when it collapses often and frequently, and get the MRI on it. Hopefully that could shed a good bit of light on what's happening. I thin its possibly a bit of arthritis because after a percussion camp I got home from, my legs were severely swollen all over, and the knees were even more so. My mom took me to the ER and try gave me a five day round of prednesone and it worked excellently. The swellings gone and I'm now almost pain free, completely pain free on good days. I'm using this short second chance back with my legs to try and get some major work done.
