Copays are horrible!!! My doctor is wonderful, but her new office staff is horrible. When I was on fentanyl patch 100 mcg, I had to reschedule my appointment and those patches you can only get a month at a time and have to go get a written prescription that is dated and turn it into the pharmacy within like 24 hours or something. I told the nurse on the phone that I only had 2 left, even for 6 days, and then I would be out. She rescheduled me knowing that for 2 weeks later!! I went through over a week of withdrawals and promised my hubby I would never go back on them because if she screwed up my appointment time again, I would just go through that again. My doctor was not happy to say the least, but I was scared to go through that again. Also, it was tearing my skin off and leaving blisters, but that is besides the point!

I have heard so many people talk about the fentanoyl patch. I wish there was some way that I could try and see if they would work for me. I am just so allergic to adhesive, I could not put the patch on my skin.

The pharmacist might have some suggestions on keeping it on. I asked my pharmacist about why it was ripping my skin off and why I was getting reactions to it and he said that there is an allergen in the adhesive and many people have reactions to it. Just some people I guess take that with a grain of salt to have the pain relief, but I wasn't willing to have scars all over my body to go with the internal ones! I even showed him my wounds from it and he said that he had seen much worse!!! WHAT?!

I have never been on the fentanyl patch... But I know about withdrawal.. My doctor who prescribes my Oxycontin is about an hour and a half away. The last time I went to see him he said I didn't need to come back for three months. well with oxycontin you need a new prescription every month. I asked the nurse what to do about getting my refills and she said I would have to drive the hour and a half just to pick up the prescription every month!!!! Anyway a couple of years ago I was prescribed dilaudid for back pain and I was taking it for 2 years, suddenly my pain management doctor decided I needed surgery not meds and took me off of it. He happened to be a doctor I worked closely with and I thought of him as a friend too. I asked what am I gonna do, 2 years is a long time to be on pain meds and not go through withdrawal he said call me if u have any probllems and we will admit u to the hospital for withdrawal...The whole situation was crazy!! I went through withdrawal, it was horrible. I went through withdrawal and never called that doctor again. My husband was a huge help...Needless to say I found a new doctor and I had surgery..At the time no one knew I had FMS... I am back on a few pain meds....

I went 3 days without eating and 5 days of diarrhea. I was used sensitive baby wipes and was just in tears and shaking 3 days into the diarrhea. I lost 9 pounds in 3 days and was even down more than that by the time I got into my doctor. I had even passed out from dehydration. The worst part was not being able to sit still. My legs would not stop moving and I had to rock all the time. My poor hubby even slept one night on the couch with his bad back because he said that I slept better without him there when I was going through that. He was instrumental in getting me through it. I refused to go to the hospital because I get so tired of being treated like a drug addict, but I told my doctor if she ever wants me off this Vicodin, I am being admitted with a Valium drip!

I am so glad that when I went threw withdrawls, my doc put me in the hospital. They lowered my dose for a few days and then changed me over to a new pain med. I wish I still had that doc. She is a great doc. She got married and moved away. That was the only time I ever cried when I had to change docs.

Right now I am in a lot of pain. I am so sick that I can not even take my pills today. my throat is so swollen, I cant get them down. I feel so bad I did not even go to the airport tonight to pic up my son. I sent hubby by himself.

About the patch, I will talk to my wonderful pharmasist. She is so wonderful that we drive 15 miles to the pharmacy where she is at. There is one less then 2 miles from here, but I dont trust anyone like I do her. She even calles me and reminds me when I need to get new scripts and makes sure nothing I take will hurt me with all my problems. I just wish everyone had a great pharmasist like I do.

I only have on small comment about withdrawls.... if you can get your doctor to put you on Suboxone.... it will make it a lot easier... and you might find as I did that it is also a great pain killer....

just a suggestion...

I have good doctors now, so I don't think withdrawal will be a problem ever again. They have promised that if I ever need to go off a medication that I would be weaned off before completely quitting it.
