I know and I appreciate the support. When my anxiety was bad I was on 2 ativian a day with my lexapro. I'm now only on the .5 of the kolonopin at night and I guess that is why I get defensive about it. Rather than increasing meds over time I've worked myself down to this little bit. It does help me sleep and when I don't sleep I have more pain.

I hate getting looks over it. In my opinion this is a very small amount of this med and to question me taking it does make me angry.

Even if people like yourself are taking it for anxiety and it is helping and your not abusing it- it just makes me upset when we are using it for functional purposes and they lump us in groups of people who might like to use it recreationally.

My rheumy just keeps telling me that he thinks something more is going on than fibro because my symptoms are so severe and keeps ordering all these tests and then says, "Come back in 3 months!". Yeah, sure...! I love my primary doc, but she is over an hour away and my hubby is pushing me to find someone closer, but she has been there through all of my struggles to find out what was causing my pain, from my endo to the fibro, and she works with me on my weight issues and my fibro and she is wonderful and definitely worth the 1 hour+ drive once a month! I would drive twice that if I had to!

I take 1 mg of Klonopin at night. It really helps to calm my mind and I fall asleep and sleep so much better. I dont take any kind of anti anxiety pill during the day, except when I have had an emotionally charged day, then I will take a Xanax or a Valium, but that is rarely.

melegss.....

I completely agree with you...We shouldn't be judged by the medicines we are taking just to function and have a life... But there are people out there who ruin it for us people who really need these medicines. Don't lower the meds you need because of people's attitudes.. Do what you need to do to function and have a good life...and if any doctor is a jerk about it move on, see someone else who understands what you are going through!

Thats right! You know my new dr, who is at a clinic because I have no insurance, got really nasty with me about refilling my Klonopin. She didnt originally prescribe it to me, it was my old doc. Well I ran out, and I called Target, and they faxed her my request. Her nurse was VERY nasty with me about it. Said that when they prescribe meds "like that" there has to be a signed "contract" by me in my chart. I flew off the handle about this comment.

SO, I emailed my former doctor/employer and explained what was going on. He refilled the Klonopin and he also asked for new docs phone #.

He called her and told her a thing or two about me and that I was intelligent enough to know what meds I needed and to make sure I got them. In the meantime I told the "nurse" and I use that word for her lightly, that she didnt need to be lecturing ppl about what they should or can be taking. I also told her that she needed to be more conscientous about her work, because I caught a lot of mistakes by her just sitting waiting for the doctor. She was ignorant of what generic names of meds were, how to do certain procedures, like a urinalysis, etc. I informed her I realize I am coming to a clinic and I am sure they see all kinds of ppl in there, including drug seekers but that I was medically educated and not to try any of her BS with me anymore. Since that time they have all been very very nice to me. And the new dr is refilling my Klonopin.

This is how I figure it, they work for me.

So dont feel bad about being on medications that are working for you. The heck with those snooty ppl!!!

My doc gives me Klonopin 1am x4 each day. but I do not take it that much. I take one if I am having a bad day and one at night.

I also dont let others know just what I take. If they dont know, they can not pre judge me. My family does not even know all of what I take.

Again- I appreciate all the positive feedback about this issue. I really hate taking drugs at all but if I have to and it helps me live a normal life then I will.

I am on so little medications now most days since I've seen that doctor in Texas but I'm not totally off all my meds. Right now I am just happy to be on less and functioning pretty good. After being on this forum I honestly have to say I have a fear that one day I won't be given kolonopin anymore and if I'm not off it on my own by then- I'm really going to pay sleep-wise.

I read these horror stories of people who have run into that and I can't believe doctors are so insensitive about med changes. Just to stop a med for somebody who is probably going to go thru withdrawal and have an increase in symptoms is terrible. If they really don't want you on a med you would think they would work with you to reduce it then get off.

I guess if they don't take meds they have no idea how it is hard on your body and your mind flip-flopping meds.

I have never had to sign a contract to get a prescription for Klonopin...What a crock!! There are much stronger meds out there than Klonopin.. The only person besides my doctors who know what meds I take is my husband... My sister, who I was very close to, knew what medications I was taking and got mad at me one day and called me a drug addict and psychotic!!! Needless to say we haven't spoken in about 6 months... Keep your medications between yourself and your doctors. No one else needs to know.. We take these things to live a semi-normal life..It is too bad so many people don't understand this.

One more thing... I don't take these things for pleasure. I just want to live a normal life for my kids and my husband! I wish I didn't have to take all the meds I take....Even co-pays will kill you financially....
