That was my situation Cadburry. I was trying for 6 months to get help and it brought on the depression and anxiety- so much so I didn't have a choice but to go on an antidepressant. I couldn't function at all with the fibro and being terribly depressed. Don't feel bad if you have to take something even temporarily for the depression. Remember when your emotions are out of wack that also makes fibro worse. Even if you take it to get over the hump of getting the help you need for the fibro.

MELEGGS - You don't live that far from me here in Chesterland, OH, so I want to give you the name of my General Internal medicine Doctor, and you call him. He is an EXCELLENT doctor. He treats me for everything from my Addisons Disease, to my Degenerative Disk Disease...and yes, of course my Fibro. His name is Dr. Agarwal (440) 312-9041. He has 2 offices, one at Hillcrest Hosp (I271 & Mayfield Rd) and one in Shaker Heights. ** I WILL EVEN GO WITH YOU ** PM me and we can talk further. You don't need the stress and anxiety of seeing Doctors that haven't got a clue...even if you did give them a quarter to buy one!!! Dr A will not judge you in anyway, and if you need some meds, he'll give them to you. PM me before you call him and I'll give U details of who to talk to at the front desk.

Try to relax, we will help you out as best possible. Hugs and concern, Dea

HI all, I have been taking elavil for a week now and I am only taking half of a 25mg dose. I HATE it! Everytime I stand up, I see fuzzys around my eyes like an antenna tv set! And I have the personality of a rock! It helps me sleep, but at what cost? I have tried Klonapin, but did same thing. What works best for me is 1 tylenol PM, thats it.. I sleep like a baby! But, it does not help my fibro like the elavil does, even though I have the side effects, I am not in as MUCH pain. Your damned if you do and damned if you don't!

Auroras- any chance of trying to split your half in a quarter? Just a thought. After time you might not feel as bad with the drug but maybe it is going to take a few weeks. Is elavil the only thing you are taking for pain? or have you tried anything like a muscle relaxer or even ultram? Everybody is different as to what they can handle etc. You need your pain controlled but you don't want to feel like a zombie long term either.

Thats a good idea mel, I tried that tonight and see how it gos, was on vicodin, but dr won't prescribe anymore, says I was taking too many, which I don't think 3 to 4 a day when I needed it is too many, but he thinks it is. Some days, I diddn't take any, just advil. I did take maybe one more than that during a flare, but he said too many.. I am on Darvocet N now, but its like taking nothing... if my pain is a 10 I take one and its a 8 so helps a little... Can't take Ultram.. had a siezure after started taking it and dr said COULD have been caused by the Ultram... never had another siezure after I stopped taking it. It diddn't work for me anyway. Have taken Voltarin, but with IBS due to fibro, bad news. then he put me on Lodine, did same thing, so a long story short, yes, I have tried pain meds alot. I was on Skelaxin, made me psychotic! awful!..... just need to find what works.. thanks for the responce, Gretchen

Well if Elavil is helping the pain than just decrease it a bit and see if the pain is still controlled and if you are not as zombie-like. If the pain gets bad then hopefully you will adjust to it over time. It didn't help me sleep- it gave me wierd nightmares in a half sleep. It's so strange how we all react differently to meds isn't it?

Yes it is! I don't get nightmares, I don't dream at all on it. One thing I can't stand is being tired all the time! I have an almost 4 year old, and she is go go go, and I can't even begin to keep up. And am only 35! I guess I could deal with the pain better if I wasn't so tired!

I can't even imagine- we don't have kids. I struggle a great deal with fatigue everyday. If I get sleep I just have fatigue- if I don't sleep I have fatigue and pain. I take tons of supplements but nothing so far helps with the fatigue!!!

I have high blood pressure too, so I have to watch what I take.. I can't take anything that will raise my blood pressure, even supplements can. NO Caffine, or anything!
