I will be attending a class this Sunday on how to live with FM and how to reduce flares. It is being given by a woman who has FM and I think, is a physical therapist.

Anyway, I'm not sure what to expect, but a friend of mine practically insisted that I go and is covering the fee for me. Friends are great, good friends are even better!

I'll let you all know what I learned.

Anyone in the No. Nevada area interested in attending, pm me and I will give you the rest of the info.

It is Sunday from 11am to 5:30pm and includes lunch and beverages.

The cost is $95, but apparently the fee can be adjusted based on need.

Ok, let me see if I can explain the class to you all without violating any of the instructors copywrites. The instructor, Billee Burchett intends to write a book at some point and also do an educational tour. I hope, for everyone, that she is able to do so.

This class was not about curing fibro, but learning to live with it by learning to be in tune with it and a partner with it by listening to your body.

The whole class was rather empowering.

First you have to essentially get in touch with your body. Listen to it. Note down every little symptom and then note what might have brought on the flare. Learn to recognize what aggravates your fibro, what brings on flares, and what calms it down. When your body says that you need to rest, REST. Don't push yourself.

If you listen, your body will 99% of the time, warn you by a twitch here, small pain there.

It is about accepting that you have fibro. Stop being a victim. Stop being angry that you can't do certain things. Be happy you are able to do anything at all or happy for the things you can do. Be thankful for the days you can walk around the block not angry about the days that you can't walk the 10 miles you used to walk.

Get in touch with your higher power whatever that may be.

Simplify your life. Less furniture means less dusting. Get rid of all that excess stuff we have to clean, move around, store, arrange, find, etc. Wear what is comfortable for your body even if it is the same stretchy pants in 5 different colors.

Take care of yourself when you're in a flare. Move slowly to avoid bumps and bruises and to conserve energy. If your fog makes you forget where your keys are, make 10 sets so you don't stress when you lose them. Just grab the other set and go. Stress equals changes in the body which results in flares.

Avoid people who choose not to accept we have fibro or those that bring us down.

Keep one notebook with you at all times. Not multiple notebooks, just one. Use it to write down things you need to do so you don't stress or have anxiety trying to remember.

Conserve your energy, do a little at a time.

A lot of the concept is very similar to the Mind, Body, Spirit theologies where learning to listen to your body can help it. I will edit with the author name when I have a chance to get my notebook.

I hope I gave you all something to think about and wasn't too confusing. Again, the class was taught and any information I provided that may be copywrited are from Billee Burchett.

What an awesome empowering woman! I bet you thoroughly enjoyed being at her 'class'. Too bad there wasn't help like this all over the US!

See, that's the point. Some things need to be done and you need to prioritize your life however, how badly did putting away the winter clothes NEED to be done all at once and at what cost was it to you to do it? It might take us twice as long to get it done, but over a week, it could be done without using all our energy and making our bodies suffer.

I'm a do it all type of person myself and I hate to leave things unfinished, but it is better to do a little at a time so I can actually enjoy a day where I can get off the couch.

You say yourself, that you knew better. Our bodies do send us signs, but our ego's don't let us admit to ourselves that we shouldn't do it. We should always listen to our bodies. Acknowledge your ego, but don't let it rule your actions. Your body carries you through the world not your ego.

I believe she is planning on holding more classes here in Reno. No DVD or literature out yet.
