Ok out of curiosity here- if you had to point to a reason or a couple of reasons you got fibro what would they be? I'm just curious.

I guess for me years of sleep deprivation and emotional stress however I did have an uncle who had lupus and fibro and I have a cousin with connective tissue disease so maybe there is a genetic link.

How about you?

I keep trying to figure that one out and have yet to reach a firm conclusion. In honesty, I don't know if it was my arthritis that kicked in before the fibro or vice versa. If that is the case, then I would blame it on my fusion. If not, who knows. I used to be pretty active.

Hi I have no idea what started this... I was bitten by a dog back in 1999 and was then diagnosed with RSD, and then in 2003 or 4 was told I had fibro..also......... Connective Tissue disorder, CPS, what I have yet to figure out is what is what and how do I tell......

Well, my mom and two of my aunts have it. I had some symptoms in high school after I was diagnosed with anorexia,it only lasted about a year, but it took a tole on my body.

Then I noticed my symptoms got a lot worse when I joined the navy. Boot camp was tough. Little sleep, bad food, long days in the sun and outside either in the cold or heat...caused lots of fibro pains. Then when I got to a ship it got a LOT worse! Even less sleep, worse food ,harder work, hard racks (beds) & a moving working environment (not easy on the muscles). I'd say I was pretty much doomed!! lol

Hmmm....trying to think of some things that may have resulted in my Mom's diagnosis. She multiple abdominal surgeries...my sister was delivered via C-section (at 7 months), hysterectomy at age 23. Surgeries (3) after that to clean up edometriosis, had to have both ovaries removed, major surgery for diverticulitis (a foot and a half of her colon had to be removed). Also, gall bladder removal.

I was still in high school when the fibro diagnosis was made (and I've been out of high school 18yrs) so I'd guess she was diagnosed approx 20 yrs ago. The rheumatoid arthritis dx was made more recently, within the past 5-6yrs.

RA is autoimmune related and there is currently a belief that some cases fibro may be autoimmune related as well. I also believe genetics play a part. My mom is the oldest of 10 children, five girls and five boys. All of my aunts have some type of autoimmune ailment (two have been been dx with fibro). One uncle has RA. The others have symptoms of such but won't go anywhere near a doctor!

I guess with all the surgeries that my Mom has had you could also say trauma has played a huge role!

Edited to Add: I remember her talking about having to put quinine drops into a glass of water and drinking it...some type of thyroid problem. Also, she had a facial stroke (at a very young age), I believe the correct term is Bell's Palsy???

I caught a viral illness that lead to a fever, sore throat, etc...

Then it attacked my immune system somehow, which attacked my spinal cord (which is called transverse myelitis).

3 yrs later I was told I also have Fibro.

I caught either a bad cold or the flu with severe neuralgia in my head. when I went to the doctor he called it Neuritis and gave me pills for the pains. I got better but was never the same again. After a few months my feet began to hurt when I got up to walk and it was downhill after that.

When i was 15 i was diagnosed with Mono, but not until after it was on its way out of my body. I think the fact that i was working through feeling so miserable and not knowing why could have done it. I never felt exactly right ever since.

Honestly, I think it was my large breasts. I am a very tiny person, but I developed buds at 7 and by 10 I was in a C and before getting a reduction I was a DD at 115 lbs. I was constantly in pain, but doctors told me to try other things, no one ever mentioned fibro. Then I was in a few car accidents, (rear ended twice). I think it was a combination of those things.
