Exercise is important!?!?

My doctor says that I need to exercise more, but it really hurts to exercise.

Has anyone found a good exercise routine that does not make things worse? Really seems that I am damned if I do, and I am damned if I don't.

R.

Hah! I love it when they say exercise! I'm not going to be exercising until they get me on something for all of this pain I'm in.It's bad enough that I have to watch what I do in day to day things and then add exercise to that pffft! No thanks.

I have gained 100 lbs since I have been left to suffer,You would think something would click in their mind at some point.

i was told eliptical machine yesterday. i really can't walk for any length of time and then there are alos the bikes that you sit down and the pedals are in front of you -- i am a little scared cause any repetitive motion hurts. I'd be curious to know what you come up with.

I do stretching exercises in the morning to loosen up the muscles that have stiffened up during the night. I walk a bit, either in a park with lots of benches or I carry a lawn chair. Walk a little, rest a lot. Walk a little more, rest a lot. I can't do an entire or even half of an aerobic workout all at once, but I can do aerobics for as long as a TV commercial. As long as I don't try to do any exercise for too long at a time, I'm OK. I have also found that varying the type of exercise helps. So my TV watching workout might look like this:

Commercial: wave my arms around until I begin to feel tired (don't overdo!)

Program: rest and watch TV until I feel better

Commercial: sit in my chair and kick my feet up and down

Program: rest and watch TV until I feel better

Commercial: get up and dance around

Program: rest and watch TV until I feel better

Repeat if possible.

I've also heard yoga is good for us, but some poses are much easier for us than others. Tai Chi is a good class to take if you can find one in your area (or find a video). Swimming is terrific exercise (and a lot of fun) but the water needs to be warm or our muscles start cramping up. Basically, whatever exercise your body will allow you to do that day is good for you. Don't worry about how long you're exercising each day (except as a goal to be reached as you get healthier). Just keep trying to exercise bit by bit, and listen when your body tells you to stop and rest for a while. Be well and God bless you!
