maybe a bizarre question -- i am being treated for CMP syndrom -- love my docs - etc. We are trying ETOIMS now and I hope it works. man hurts like hell - needles wihtout anasthesia -- electricity instead. But i think it is working ...

I am very very thin 1010lbs 5'5''and lose weight fast. I am goign to see endcoronlogist to see if I can slow down my metabolism. Thryoid and blood have been checked a million times. They tell me i overproduce adrenaline maybe? I sometimes accidentally work thru pain and then whne my brain turns off - i really suffer.

so - doc said let's try lyrica, may not help too much for the pain BUT many patients complain about weight gain...??

then he said GET THIS - really bad weight gain like 30 to 40 lbs!!?

yikes --I can/t add 1/3rd of my body weight. I look pretty sick though - NO i am no anerexic...

I do everythign - shakes, carbs,protein -- just can't gain weight. I used to sit at 110 -- haven't seen that for 4 yrs -

1.) anyone have really high metabolism? Meds fly thru my system or don't work at all...thankfully doc trust me and i use meds as intelligently as possible.

2.) anyone gain just a "little weight" on lyrica? I would be okay wiht 10 extra lbs. Donuts are NOT gettign me there OR are most ballooning up?

I too am usually on the thin side (5'7" &125lbs ) My metabalosm works fast. Sometimes I feel like a goose. I could eat everything I wanted and still weigh the same. I was on lyrica for 2 1/2 months and gained over 30 lbs. I had to go off it because my fingers swelled so much I had to have my wedding ring cut off in the ER. My Dr. did not take my weight gain seriously, saying I ws still within normal range and I should exercise more and just wanted to lower my dose! Now she's mad I'm not taking her "wonder drug" anymore and wont prescribe anything else. I wish I never started that nightmare. It did help some for pain, but in my humble oppinion, not worth this nightmare of pain I'm living now.

wow --may i ask what dose? sounds like you are like me - w/your weight and height -- the same ratio...i am 46 and look old and drawn. I had horrible side effects from nuerontin and kepra and i am a littel nervous about this - PLUS i have severe Myofacial pain but really don't fit the description/classification for fibro.

I am so glad youreplied. It syas to start low and i think he has just heard me complain about being so thin (and like u -i eat everything). I doubt he would take me off the narcs -- (god that woudl piss me off). I am so sorry you had to go thru (or are still going thru) that nightmare

30lbs would make me look weird. So when you stopped --Did the weight come off?

Man sometimes everything is in extremes isn't it?

I was taking lyrica 75mg 3x a day. I'm told that's actually lower than the recomended dose. I've been off it for about 6 weeks and have lost just over 20 lbs. The first 10 came off in a couple of days. The next required a bit of effort. I'm done with the dieting now, just trying to avoid junk.

i have put on about 30 pounds in about two months. I can't get off of the lyrica now. I am trying to. I think that it really does help with the pain, but I have blurry vision and all this weight gain doesn't help with my depression now my cholesterol is sky high, blah blah blah, etc, etc, michelle

I have been taking lyrica for 3 months now, 50mg, 3 times a day. Prior to going on it I lost 35 pounds during a month long stay in the hospital. All of that weight has returned. My doctor told me that Lyrica is a narcotic and that if he felt that I should get off of it, he would wean me off of it slowly over the course of a month. It seems to help with the pain somewhat, but now since I have been taking it, if I miss a dose, I am in a bad way. I am back in my fat jeans, and there is nothing really to do about it. At least when I was on Cymbalta, it supressed my appetite but it did nothing for the pain. I'm just waiting for the FDA to pull Lyrica off of the market like they are all of these other medications, then we will all be back at square one. Speaking of which, has anyone out there felt any of the repercusions from the fentanyl recall?

Jill

I wrote into Pfizer and never heard back. I too have gained weight and feel it is because of Lyrica. I take 500mg a day. The manufacturerers of Lyrica know it causes weight gain, but they don't know why. They also don't admit to the weight gain being as much as it it for most people. I have heard nothing of Lyrica being taken off the market. There is another drug scheduled to be released in the fall for fibromyalgia patients. I am hoping to try this one when it comes out. Until then I am sticking with the Lyrica. Until I was on it I couldn't stand the pain and now I can at least tolerate it with the help of intermittent pain meds. I hope that you and your doctor decide on a plan that is best for you and works for your pain.

Oh, I forgot to answer your question: When I was in the accident I weighed 125 pounds and I am 5' 5''.

You have to take into consideration my lack of exercise and my junk food that I didn't eat in the past but I weight 170 pounds. I would attribute 30 pounds to the Lyrica. Before I was on it the weight gain was minimal and more controlable. It has also caused me one episode of CHF where I was extremely short of breath until I took 120mg of Lasix that thankfully I had at home and then I could breath a little. Sometimes I felt it made me very puffy. I hope this is making sense. I wouldn't go off of it though. It has helped me with the pain.
