Why wear a ribbon?

"I wear this ribbon 4 fibromyalgia, PCOS, endometriosis and hypothyroid." (endofibro4life78)

MDJunction to me

"All I can say is that this has been the best place ever. It has been six to seven months since I joined, and I have learned so much. I now believe in myself and accept myself on a completely different level. The people on MDJunction has been so supportive and accepting that I have been able to adopt it into my personal life. That has reduced a lot of stress in my life. Thanks to all." (bunny_fly)

I'm just wondering how many of you go to a pain clinic. I will be going to one next month.

I'm a little nervous now as I just read that pain clinics don't prescribe narcotic pain meds either. Is this true? They have a big thing about narcotic pain meds in the paper work they sent me.

Unfortunately I really need something strong to help me to have a normal life.

Does the pain clinic help you or do you still feel that your not getting the releife you need.

I go to one, and I feel that they do help me. My doctor even gives me meds.

I go to a pain clinic. I get my narcotics there and only there. I have a contract with them that I will not get narcotic from anyone but them. They administer random drug testing, and montor my narcotic usage.

I am not sure if i know the difference between seeing a practice that ONLY handles "pain management" verusus a pain clinic, but IF their paperwork regarding narcotics is reasonable (such as contract) then most doctors whose practice "specifies" pain treatment, at least in my experience, have rather strict terms they verbalize in writing. I will say I ONLY felt that my situation was actually being treated once i saw a pain specialist vs. a nuero, md, etc. good luck

I used to go to a pain clinic. I had 8 series of trigger point injections in my neck and trap. muscles and gave me very little short-lived relief. (they were billing my ins. $600 a visit). The Dr was also giving me vicodin 750s 4X day since Nov. I refused any more injections since they were quite painful and not loosening my knots at all. He then told me that He "had exhausted all treatments and narcotics dont work for fibro." (Narcotics worked fine when my ins. was paying $600 a visit for them). I had previously been on Lyrica, Neurontin and numerous other CNS pain drugs and could NOT tollerate the side effects. My Bi-polar is stable and I don't want to try any other psych drugs. I have not been able to find any other pain specialists that take my insurance AND treat fibro. I've found many dont or arent willing to prescribe them for someone in their 40s.

I am now forced into vicodin withdrawel because I was shut off with no warning. Luckily I'm a stubburn person, so I WILL do it myself, but I resent the fact that I have to.

For that reason, I would thoroughly research this DR and his philosophy on managing FM. Youre better off with nothing if your Doc. is willing to shut you off like mine did.

Best of luck. I hope you find relief.

I go to a pain clinic as well & really like my pain dr. My take on the clinic is that she is willing to try diff combos of meds that my rheumy didn't feel comfortable with. Once the pain is under control, the rheumy will take over the management of my meds again. Does that make sense?

I have before and I had to sign a contract that I would only receive narcotics from him, yada yada. I also have an appt in a month to start a new one. I dont Know what I think they are going to do for me. I have no ins so I am not going to have any expensive treatments done, but since I have applied for SSDI I am really just going to get some documentation.

I'm hoping that they give me something for my pain so that I can try to get a job. I know I'm probably dreaming, but I want to go back to work so bad.

I hope you get something that helps with the pain. One thing to know is that it will take patience...sometimes I wish I could hit the "fast forward" button on the remote of life so I could get the right combo of meds. Guess I am not a very patient person at times. lol Just know that they are only going to probably do one thing at a time to know if it works or doensn't. I just really hope you have a great doc at the pain clinic and that you get some relief. Good luck & keep us updated!
