I have read so many different things about pain medications and fibro. I have read where people get releife from being on a pain medicine and some sites/people say pain medications don't help with fibromyalgia.

I know when I had a urinary tract infection and the hospital wrote me out a prescription for Hydrocodones that I ended up using them for my fibro pain instead of UTI pain and it was the best week I had in more than a year.

I just thought I would bring this question to a place that I know people will give me real answers.

Are you on a pain med. for he Fibro and if so what is it and do you think it works?

A BIG thanks to all that reply

HI... that question is a loaded one......

I think all meds for fibro are on an individual bases...meaning it may work for one and not another or it may work on some symtoms... I use provigil and Suboxone and I am the most comfortable I have been in 10yrs........ where Lyrica and cembalta..I can't spell... do not work for me ... and now after being on all this stuff for 10 yrs I am allergic to almost all pain narcotics......... So my way to put this is ....

It is individual results... one might work for one and not for someone else

I know what works for some don't for others, but what gets me is that some sites/people say they don't work at all for people with fibro. I have tried several non-narcotic pain medications with bad results from all but one.

I can't take Cymbalta because I have a bad reaction with it. I can't take Lyrica because I have chronic dizziness and this stuff makes it really bad. I could take the Tramadol, but it did nothing for my pain at all I was on the Tramadol for more than a month waiting for the pain to ease up and it never did.

I have not gotten to try the Provigil or Suboxone. I go to the pain clinic next month, but to tell you the truth I'm tired of trying things that don't help or make me sick. I also have IBS and it also makes it hard to tolerate some meds.

I'm also allergic to codiene but can take semi-synthetic codiene (not sure what the difference is but thats how it was explained to me) so I'm assuming my options in narcotic pain meds is very limited.

I really just want to know what everyone here thinks of how their pain meds work for them. It gets very frustrating to hear people say this or that doesn't work for fibro and then read that this or that brought one person releife.

So if you think your pain meds work for you please tell.

I take Vicodin ES, Flexeril and Klonopin at night to help me relax and sleep. Take Vicodin and Tylenol during the day, they dont really help, I have learned to tolerate the pain. Have had Fibro and arthritis a realllly long time. After a while you just sort of get used to the pain, it is just there and you either deal with it or not. That is the way I look at it. I hurt so terribly when, lets say, I pick my grandson up and play with him, but I overlook the pain and suck it up because I want to do play with my grandson. I hurt so terribly when my family wants to go somewhere where there is walking involved, but it is important I spend time with my fam, so I suck it up and go on.

I hope you get some relief at the pain med dr.

I take Percocet for pain, Valium for Anxiety (which also helps with the pain), Flexeril for muscle spasms (which also helps with the pain) and Imipramine for depression (which also puts me to sleep so I take that at night)! Then you add the Ibuprofen and Aspirin and all of the herbs I've started taking it's quite a handful. LITERALLY!

But, it's the best concoction any doc has come up with so far, so I'm sticking to this! I was on Oxycontin for a while....it did help with the PAIN more, but I was like a robot that didn't know which shoe to put on first...I was just soo high all of the time. And, I didn't like it!

I hope you can find something that works for you!

I take Mobic, tramadol, flexerill and clonazepam, which is klonopin. Yesterday the dr out me on an antidepressant and I cannot start it yet because it reacts severely with the tramadol. I don't remember the name of it. I personally, don't think any meds help much. We just have to do the best we can with what we've got. If anything I think the flexerill and clonazepam since I take them at night atleast help me to sleep some.

I just take 2 all natural products that is working for my Fibro as well as my osteoarthritis pain, insomnia, and overative baldder.

That's it besides Salmon oil and a healthy diet

These have worked miracles for me....have done way more for me then injections, pain pills, etc...

The best thing you can do for yourself is RESEARCH and READ!

I decided to go all natural because #1 the meds weren't helping and #2 they ALL had way too many bad side effects that were causing even MORE problems.

I take Vicodin every 6 to 8 hours pretty much every day. It works great for the pain and stiffness. If you have IBS you might want to take magnesium with the painkillers........it keeps things moving if you know what I mean. The hardest part is getting a doc to write the Rx for Vicodin but lately I have had more success with that. Most doctors just look at you cross eyed when you ask for a narcotic. It tends to be a real relationship killer...........

I take vicodin 3x a day and ultram sometimes but I cant take any nsaids because I am allergic. So, I have a hard time getting meds that help. I think I need a stronger dose of the vicodin because its not working as well any more. But right now I dont feel comfortable asking my doctor for anything stronger. I had a hard time getting it 3x a day.

I take morphine sulfate extended release 30 mg twice a day, Lortab 10/500 mg for breakthrough, Lexapro for depression and Elavil to help me sleep. I tried Cymbalta and Lyrica, but they didn't work at all for me, so my rheumatologist took me off. I have tried Neurontin in the past too, but with no success either. The Elavil does work really well for sleeping. I have tried Wellbutrin in the past, but that didn't work real well either.

I have found that it is best to just do trial and error and you will find what works for you. Some have higher pain tolerance and some have lower and some fibro seems to have more pain while others seem to have severe fatigue or other symptoms, etc. You work with what you got.

I hope you find something to help. Good luck!
