MDJunction to me

mabri"When I was diagnosed about 18 months ago with fibromyalgia, I didn't know where to turn. I got on my computer and looked for a support group where I could talk to other people with the same disease and get some help...Information, suggestions, mostly just what I can do now that I have this.....disorder/disease/syndrome...I didn't even know what to call it. I found MDJ, and yes, there was a support group for fibro. I started a post, and figured I would never get an answer. However, very quickly I was welcomed in, and became really involved in the group. I received help, support, friendship and the feeling of being truly cared about by these strangers who had become like family to me. Now, I have been here for about a year and a half...I have become a group leader, and love every minute of it. It is so wonderful to be able to help others. I still receive help and answers from the members in this group. The fibromyalgia is where I go to help, support, listen, care and even laugh. I don't know what I would do without this group." I just started going to a new pain management specialist and he gave me a trigger point injection. He did not really tell me much about them though. He does hands on work, like massage therapy and acupuncture and all different stuff. He said that some people think they help but more so they will help loosen my muscles in order for them to do other treatments. He keeps saying no one thing will make the pain so much better but that it takes a mix of treatments. The injection was so painful while he was doing it and then caused so much pain for about 24 hours after to the point where i could barely lift my arm (the injection was in my shoulder area). Just wondering if anyone has had them and gotten any relief. Don’t know if they are worth the extra pain. He was saying how some people see results with his treatment plan in weeks and others it takes 6 months or longer. Was hopeful when I first went to him but not so much anymore….Sad

I've had them. They do cause alot of soreness for a day or so. The med they inject is usually a mix of steriods and local anestetics(sp?). I've found that they didn't help me. I actually had 10 done in one day with the first rheumy I've ever gone to. I've also found that the nerve blocks, which are basically the same but in the spine instead of muscle, don't work for me either. Give it another day or so for the soreness of the injection to wear off before you decide.

Hi Mandy I have had trigger point injections along with facet joint injections. I actually had a lot of luck with the injections in my neck and upper back but did not find any relief for the ones in my lower back. I was told that it takes a good 5 days for them to set in and up to 10 days for you to see results. Also, you should ask for a mild sedative when they do the injections, it makes it much easier to handle.

Hi, Mandy - I know this is about a month after your original post, but I did try trp injections, but they injected me with marcane, which, I have recently read several places actually does more harm than good to fibro muscles. I wish you luck.

hi mandi, my name is mary and i am new to this support group and to forums, but when i saw this subject, i had to respond, i too get trigger point injections, hips, shoulder, i also get facet injections in my lower back on both sides, i have had 3 sets since nov. only lasting about three months each, they are probably the worst injections i ever had, but even a little relief is better than no relief, my last fact injection was in june, i had hysterectomy in july and hope to be going back to work next week, now last sunday, i woke up and could not walk, my back and hips were so bad, i had to use my cane to get to the bathroom, now here is my dilema, i am not sure i want to continue to have these steriod injections i really think that they have caused more problems with my body, but i also hate to rely on pain meds and muscle relaxers everyday and if i do take these meds the way the dr. prescribes thn i can't work. i was a lpn for 4 years then suddent i became ill and had to take a desk job, i have to be honest i would like nothing better than to not have to get up everymoring and go to work, but have to help support my family., sorry got off the topic. Using ice/heat for 24 hours after trigger injections really helps me and when i have my facet injections, i request a sedative and then i only ice for 24-48 hours
