So today I am starting to feel like a guinea pig. First of all, let me say that I LOVE my pain dr! She is soooo compassionate and really willing to listen & answer my laundry list of questions without making me feel like she wants to run out the door.

Now that is out of the way, I told her I didn't think the Lyrica was for me. Told her about the side effects I am having (spinning, dizziness). So we are going to taper off the Lyrica, then taper off the Cymbalta. I go back in one month to see a Phys asst and will probably get put on Effexor.

So, what does anyone have to tell me about the tapering and the Effexor?

I am nervous about the changes, but grateful that my dr is willing to find something that works for me. It's times like this that I wish there was a "magic pill or potion". Oh - and before I forget, I asked her about adrenal fatigue and I need to talk to my pcp about that & figure out when they checked my coritsol last. (My right adrenal gland hemorraged sp? after I had my 2nd baby.) She is going to check my hormones & thyroid cuz I talked to her about decreased drive & fatigue. So, all in all, I think I have a great dr, but am feeling like we are shooting darts in the dark which makes me feel like a fat guinea pig. (I gained some weight on the Lyrica.)

Any input anyone can give is appreciated. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

Hope everyone else is doing well now that the full moon has moved on.

I guess we are the guinea pigs. Despite the fact that fibro has been around for a long long long time--we seem to know little about it. I have been doing some reading on Janet G Travell who pioneered fibro research. It is very interesting. Since my appointment at JH yesterday, I have spoken with several doctors and my first question is "Do you believe in Fibromyalgia?" If not I have decided to thank them for their time and move on. There is no reason for me to waste my time talking to people that do not believe. It is a real dx and I only have time for those who believe it.

I love how they ask you if you are depressed. The only way you could deal with this and not be depressed it to be numb or so self absorbed that you don't notice what is going on around you.

Thank you for your posts. I always get so much out of what you write. Even if it is not for me. I have never quite known what to say to people. I have always been so to the point and a little rough.

My dr was great ~ she loved the fact that I brought my list of ?'s and that I took notes while we talked. (Only way I can remember what she says.) LOL She said too that she has to do the same thing when she goes to her dr & she IS a dr! Too funny. I wish you all could have a dr like me...she is very compassionate, intelligent, etc and makes me truly feel like a part of the team of trying to feel better.

Only ? I have right now, is what is effexor?

She is wanting me to try this after I wean off Lyrica and Cymbalta. I am not sure what to expect from it???

Effexor, they have their own website. http://www.stillhavesymptoms.com/

The doctor I used to work for swore by this stuff, said it was the greatest antidepressent out there. I tried it and within 3 days I was hallucinating. Now that doesnt mean you will have the same effect, But I called in sick that day and told the doc, huh, I wont be in, that med you put me on made me crazier than I already was! So had to change. It might work for you well though.

I tried it & it wasn't for me, but then again I'm very sensitive to anti-depressants. I think I have read on here & other forums that a lot of people have success with it.

Thanks LibraJo. I think I am nervous about med changes cuz I seem to be sensitive to meds. I am grateful however that my dr isn't forcing me to stay on something that doesn't work and that she is truly trying to help get me some relief.

I was on effexor for a long time, until I no longer had insurance, it is quite expensive in my neck of the woods so the dr. put me on another anti-depressant. If I remember correctly it was about $138 a month for me. We changed because of the cost, but it did work well for me. I would take it again if I could afford it. I didn't have any side effects.

I tried Lyrica for a few weeks and had to stop when I noticed several small skin lesions developing. I had only been on it a few weeks and didn't notice much of an improvment although I know you generally have to be on something for months to get the full effect. My doc asked if I would be willing to try Neurontin and as that point I was willing to try just about anything. After just a few days of starting the Neurontin I notice such a dramatic improvment. As for the effexor, I tried that many years ago for depression. It did not help and when I stopped taking it I was soooo sick for about a week. My doctor at the time had failed to tell me I needed to be tappered off it and couldn't just stop it. I'm not too fond of antidepressents. I was diagnosed with as bipolar many years ago and have tried so many different meds I lost track. I have found out I actually do better not taking anything for it. But everyone is different and they do help some people. So you will have to just listen to everyone else's experiences and decide if it is right for you.
