I went to the Pain Center last week so he could give me back my pain meds since my local stupid Dr won't refill them any more (they don't believe in pain meds now that the main Dr retired), and he tried to tell me he never gave me pain meds!! Whatever!! Anyway, they got me a referral to a Rhuematologist. (I've been told for the last 6 months I should be going to a Rhuemy since I also have RA and joint issues.)

Since the first time this Rhuemy's Office called, the Office Lady has been nothing short of a royal bitch. Hateful, rude, you name it. My appt was for 2:10 today. She called late last evening and said the Dr wanted to leave early and they were changing my appt to 11:00 am. I told her I'd have to check and see if the person sitting with our 25 yo severely handicapped son would be available. I called her back then and let her know that no, we'd have to stick to the afternoon appt. She got nasty over that and said the Dr may not want me as a patient since I'm not flexible and can't come in when THEY want me there. And btw...I need to make sure I can pay the full visit when I come which will be somewhere between $300-$1500!!! I told her that I'm already working with the Central Business Office and have a payment program in place. She got snippy and nasty with me over that.

Well....if anyone has been watching The Weather Channel, we are the lower SW section of Missouri that has the awful flooding (a school bus this afternoon tried crossing a bridge taking kids home and the bridge collapsed!) We tried every possible highway to get out of our rural area to no avail. All roads are closed. I called the Dr Office to reschedule. Told her why were couldn't get there, etc. She never asked if we had any trouble or anything, just let me know that since I didn't make it in today that she highly doubts they will see me as a patient. Then went on to tell me that she will have to check with the Dr to see if he even wants to mess with rescheduling me!! I was shocked. So....I'm waiting a call back from them. In the mean time, I am trying to reach the Pain Center Dr to see if there is another Dr they could refer me to that maybe has nicer people and a good Dr.

What exactly are you all seeing your Rhuemy's for? Do they help with pain meds? I've been without pain meds for 2 months now and I'm going mad. Would you "mess around" with a Rhuemy's Office that is THIS hateful before you even get in to see them for the first visit??

Thank you for your replies!!

Wow!!!You have really been through it. On my earlier post I suggested you get with your local reprsentatives for help---now I suggest you get with you local representatives to complain about the little healthcare you have been able to obtain. I am nurse. No one and I mean NO ONE, RICH OR POOR, SICK OR HEALTHY, INSURED OR UNINSURED SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE THAT.

I go to a pain clinic at a doctor in Maryland where I live and that is where I get my pain meds. In fact, I have a pain contract with them. I am not allowed to get pain meds from anyone else. The do occasional drug screenings.

I can understand the doctor's frustration about you not being able to change your appt. but that is not your fault. You had a standing appt. You tried but couldn't change it. That is all you could do. You also could not change the weather. I hope you will find another doctor. I cannot imagine that you would ever feel comfortable with this one.

God bless you in all that you do and I will pray that things get better for you.

In my personal experience with any kind of doctor, be it internist or specialist they really do the same thing. I can get pain meds from my internist or my rheumy or cardiologist, even my oncologist. I personally think that going to a rheumy and spending all that money is a big waste of time and my money. Your internist should be able to treat fibro. Mine does.

But I know SSD wants you to see specialists which is ridiculous.

Sorry if I sound crabby, I am, but not at you all. Just pain.

No. I would not tolerate a professional behaving in a crude, rude and irresponsible manner. I don't allow anyone to speak to me in that way.

Being polite is a minimum of what is expected from the medical community. It is expected from all civilized people. What's more, it is free -- doesn't cost a dime to be nice.

No way would I allow this doctor to lay a hand on me.

I would send him a VERY POLITE letter (to his home address)that made he/she aware of the hideous behavior that I experienced. It is possible that the doctor is unaware of the behavior of the staff.

Find another doctor.

Wow such rude and uncalled for behavior from a receptionist. I am willing to be the doctor is no better. Sounds like she really sets him up on a pedestal like he is some sort of god. Who is she to think that because by an act of nature and also because you could not get your sitter to sit with your son that the doctor might not want you for a patient???? I would look for a different doctor so fast that I would be dizzy (does that make sense?? and if not you know what I mean, I hope, lol).

I went to a rheumy once yrs ago and she didn't tell me anything I didn't already know and she gave me no meds.

Pamela I hope you find a good doctor that is willing to work with you situation.

Were you spared the ravages of that storm? I pray you did. Were there any injuries with the children on the bus? How scary that must have been for them.

Oh yes, you should report that office to the local medical board or someone like that.

Take care,

Maggie

I wasn't aware that an internist is the one to see for FMS mamanordy.

I agree with everyone else...find another doctor. It took me months to get in to see my rheumatologist, but it was well worth it. Even though I had heard she has a terrible bedside manner, that was not the case at all. She was wonderful and gave me a muscle relaxer and lots of good tips about dealing with FM. There is NO WAY I would waste my time with a doctor's office who treated me like that. It's absolutely ridiculous! The doctor is probably even worse than the receptionist. I think it's ironic that doctors can charge you if you don't cancel your appt. within 24 hours, but it's not like they pay you when they have to cancel

Thank you all for the replies.

I never heard anything more than that one report about the school bus, and it said the driver and a child or 2 were in serious condition. I'm waiting to see what is in the paper about it this Thursday. (Our paper is only weekly! lol)

As for the Rhuematologist, they said they would call back....still nothing. So I had also called the Pain Center since they referred me and ask if they could send me elsewhere, and why, and they said they would call me back later that day. That day was last Wed. I called back on Friday, and got the "oh, we forgot about it, let us do that and call you back this afternoon", well...the crickets are still chirping in the silence. Still haven't heard. So...I'll call tomorrow again.

Here the Pain Center won't give pain meds. (Now doesn't THAT sound dumb!) They will give you injections in your head or anywhere else, but NO oral meds!

My internist (family Doc) got a new Doc in the Clinic who changed all their policies. Now no one is allowed to go pee without checking with this Doc first, who will then say it's against the new office policies! I filled out the paperwork 4 weeks ago to have my file copied to go to another Dr who is local. He has other Fibro patients, and had ONE opening. Here we are 4 weeks, and I was calling constantly, originally I was to pick UP the file and hand deliver, but the dumb Doc's office sent my file by Fax to someplace in Springfield, and no one knows WHERE, but all insist it wouldn't have been faxed somewhere unless I said to do it. I was like OMG!! DUH!! I had arrangements to PICK UP the file, which is why I drove 25 miles here today to pick it up!! Well, as it turned out, the Doc filled his only opening, and it wasn't with me. (I still didn't get my file yet!)

I'm so fed up. Today I called the Dumb Doc's office because I did PPA for my Cymbalta (I can't afford $275 a month!!) and told them I hadn't heard anything, and didn't get my meds, have they heard anything?? So, the lady went and checked and...Oh, well your medicine has been sitting here waiting on you to pick it up for the past several WEEKS!!!! I wanted to scream! I've been out of it for over a week, I've been IN your office 4 times in the past week alone, and you didn't think enough to let me know you had them???? (Now you see partly why I'm looking for a new Reg. Doc too!) I just want a Doc who believes in Fibro and the other conditions I have and will treat me. NOT say I'm obviously some hypochondriac and it's all in my head!

Thanks for listening!
