 Ok so I'm a little slow lol.

At my doctors office there is a sign and it reads

WE DO NOT PRESCRIBE PAIN/NARCOTIC MEDICINE ON INITIAL VISIT

I don't know what they mean by on initial visit.

I know my doctor said they don't prescribe them at all, but I know that my NP can, but I guess not at my clinic.I'm just wondering if someone can tell me exactly what the sign means. I know this probably seems a stupid question, but I don't get it

 Hi Cadburry,

The only stupid question is the one not asked. That just is there so people don't just say " I know what is wrong, just give me the narcotics and let me alone." I feel like an addict when that happens. It happens to me quite frequently. pm me and I will tell you more.

 It means that they do not prescribe narcotic on the first visit to their office. You must establish yourself as a patient before you will be prescribed pain medication. This prevents drug seekers from going from clinic to clinic or outlining areas for pain medication. There used to be lists kept in the ED of suspected narcotic seekers but I don't know now because of hippa. In our area it would show up in our computer system.

 They're just warning 'junkies' that they're wasting their time if they think they're gonna make an appt. at some clinic that they HAVEN'T been to before and walk in the doctors room and ask for drugs! Not that the junkies are gonna read the dang sign, but it's up there!

And, you're not an idiot! Maybe SILLY...but not an idiot! There ARE no stupid questions my dear!!! Well, I guess really, in all reality there COULD be...but that wasn't one of them!!
