The Dr. started me on neurontin this last week, has anyone who takes neurontin, klonipin and trazadone along with robaxin has the side effect of dilated pupils, poor cordination,slurring your words, just an overall drunk state. My husband said he has seen me on oxys that didnt have this effect, I am wondering maybe the combinations of drugs is to much, I did ask the pharmacy but they said it was fine although I don't feel fine.Even if you just take neurontin and have these sides effects please let me know...I appriciate all of you and thank you for your patients with me.

jumptolife,

I haven't taken those meds all at the same time, but I can say that just the klonipin and trazadone made me act like a drunk. Then, when I tried to start neurontin, I didn't even know who I was. I didn't know what to put on first...socks or shoes! But, that's just me. I can't take neutontin. I wish I knew more and could give you some insight. Maybe you should call your Doc?!?!

Hope it gets better....

The main side effect that I had when I was on Neurontin was 40 pound weight gain over less than a years time. I know everyone hates to hear that. There are a couple of other meds that I have been given in this same group that I did not/do not seem to have side effects from...they are Topamax and Lyrica.

The information below is from Drugs.com....

http://www.drugs.com/neurontin.html

What are the possible side effects of Neurontin?

• If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Neurontin and seek medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:

· an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives).

• Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Neurontin and talk to your doctor if you experience

· dizziness, poor coordination, or drowsiness;

· blurred or double vision;

· irregular back-and- forth movements of the eyes;

· nausea and vomiting; or

· tremor.

• If children 3 to 12 years of age experience any of the following serious side effects, contact your doctor immediately

· emotional lability (anxiety, behavior problems, crying, false sense of well-being, mental depression, reacting too quickly, too emotionally, or overreacting, rapidly changing moods);

· hostility (aggressive behavior, suspiciousness, or distrust);

· restlessness, hyperactivity or increase in body movements;

· amnesia (loss of memory); or

· thought disorders (concentration problems and change in school performance).

• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

I have been on Neurontnin for about 7 days now. I'm on 300mg twice a day. Some days it hits me harder than others. Some doses during the day also hit me harder than others. I do feel out of sorts sometimes about an hour after taking the pill. I feel like my mind is thinking faster than my mouth can talk. I also get lost in thought a lot soon after I take it. I'm sure that these will wear off soon, maybe?

I started with neurotin, and my doc at the time kept wanting to up the dosage. I felt half drunk and so sleepy when I drove it was dangerous. I ran out once and that side effect wasn't pretty. I took myself off by gradually stepping the dosage down. Have you tried Fentanyl Patches? They are a scheduled narcotic,and you will get addicted to them and taper down if the time comes, but they help me alot better than neurotin,

I'm always pained when I see another person prescribed a strong drug without any sort of strategy for gradually easing into it.

I dug into my files and drawers and here is the actual instructions my pain doctor once gave me for a course of Neurontin 1800 mg a day (three 600 mg tablets per day). You'll need to make adjustments to fit your own dosage.

1/4 tablets two times a day for four days

1/4 tablets 3-4 times a day for four days

1/2 tablets 3 times a day for four days

1/2 tablets 4 times a day for four days

a whole tablets three times a day

This should make your adjustment easier- you'll find my very strong opinions on Neurontin elsewhere in the forum. Oh, heck! let me just say it again;

Parke-Davis was convicted of CRIMINAL FRAUD and fined $453 MILLION DOLLERS (later reduced to only $119,000,000) for having their salespeople hype and peddle over $2,700,000,000 (that's 2.7 Billion with a "B") worth of Neurontin PER YEAR to the Doctors as the fibro wonderdrug even though it was never approved for fibro usage. This was no small thing - 90% of Neurontin prescriptions were found to be "off label" ie, not prescribed for the drugs stated purpose (epilepsy and other seizure disorders). Don't you think that if they were selling $2.7 billion a year worth of this stuff and it worked they would have sought FDA approval?My personal experience with Gabapenititan (the generic name for Neurontin) was that it was a pretty worthless drug. The side effects were pretty terrible (horrendous dry mouth, fatigue requiring a 3 p.m. nap every day and in bed by 9 p.m., and I didn't find that it did much for the fibromyalgia anyway.

I personally don't think it's very effective and after trying 2-3 courses each six weeks or longer

I no longer bother taking it is the side effects are horrendous and it's not approved by the FDA. As Doctor's don't like it when you refuse a perscription my suggestion is you should try it for six weeks to two months and if you're still bothered by side effects and/or don't feel that it's effective reverse the process above and taper off

I know that there isn't a quick solution to using Gabapentin (spelled from my script bottle) hasn't really done much in the 2 week period of time that my doc said to wait. I already "fired" that doc for lying to me, but still I think of what he said about waiting 2 weeks. I think that I'm on too low of a dose. About the only thing that the Gabapentin has done for me is prevented the serious withdrawal symptoms of taking Dilaudid 8mg over the past 3 months, at least 16 mg per day. I'm not supposed to be taking them and had to stop b/c I have to pass a drug test for a new job and that would cause me to fail b/c I don't have a script for it. I've had the withdrawal symptoms before because I never intended on taking the other med for so long, I kind of just fell into it b/c the pain just didn't ever stop or lessen as this is the worst time of year for me and has been since I've been under constant stress from the job I'm leaving. So, at least I don't get sweaty, clammy, and otherwise sick to my stomach and anxious b/c I don't have any pain pills besides the tramadol. I probably won't even be on Gabapentin long enough to see it's benefits, if there are any, b/c my insurance will cut in about 2 weeks.

Gabapentin.... i took 900mg 3 times a day. I should have done what mr.s. suggested and gradually took it i didn't start out on such a high dose, that was at the end. that is a WHOLE lot for our livers to deal with, as well as the funky feeling. I take lyrica now... the wonder drug... (in my opinion) and my liver only has to deal with 2-3 75mgs a day. but i have to say, like i have before... on a really bad day, a boat load ain't gonna help.

You're right, I think there are days that nothing is going to help! That day for me is today! I think I'm going to stop my Neurontnin...I don't know, but I think it's actually making me worse. If anything, I'm just taking pills to take them cause they aren't taking the edge off and the doc said I should see a difference after 2 weeks. Either he was wrong, or I need more, or I need some of that Lyrica that you take pondering...I'm gonna ask about that Thursday at my appointment.
