"I have fibromyalgia." (Deke)

MDJunction to me

"I am so happy to be a part of the MDJunction family! Where I used to be alone, I now have friends whom inspire me, comfort me, support me, and do not judge me. My new life began October 17, 2008. I weighed in with severe depression, social anxiety disorder and avoidant personality disorder. I was born with complications but I am fighting for my life and I will survive!!" (apieceofwork)

I've never had an MRI with contrast. But, I was initially dx'ed with growing pains as a child then correctly dx'ed with JRA. It's a perpetuating factor for fibro. I've always had symptoms of fibro but it was never dx'ed until I was 25. My mother has polymyositis, RA, OA and symptoms of fibro but her doc doesn't believe in it. I really wish she'd find a better doc. I have an Aunt with Celiac, a niece with some form of IBD. And that's just the family I know of. Older members of my family had osteoporosis, likely had RA as well judging by the hand damage I've seen in pics and the stories of "rheumatiz".

Sadly, my 5 yr old is showing signs of either JRA or fibro but because his lab work is fine..the ped rheumy said he's fine. But couldn't explain his complaints of pain.

Thanks tired 2 death(like that one)She goes to a special clinic in Indianapolis Dec 4th and 5th so we'll see. I want to go,but I never know how I'm going to be and I don't want her worrying about me so her hubby is going with her and we'll be taking care of her 3 kids.

Wayney,I'm sorry to here that your 5 year old is already showing signs of pain. I can't imagine having a little one feel the way we feel.Sounds like you have alot of this stuff running in the family.

But fibro is body wide..or widespread pain in all 4 quadrants of the body. so having fibro in one place is not a good way of the doc saying it. either you have it or you don't..it's not like OA where only a joint or two is affected. Fibro is systemic. where do these docs get their info.

everything I've read says what Bruce said: it's a 1 in 2 chance of having the predisposition for fibro, not a 50/50 chance of definitely getting it.

Here is a quote from Starlanyl on genetics and having localized problems.

"There is a genetic tendency to develop fibromyalgia. There are studies un-

derway to find what genes are involved, including a total genome search for

FMS-related genes. Approximately half of the children of a fibromyalgia

parent will eventually develop FMS. The sooner FMS is recognized and

treated, the more easily symptoms can be controlled if needs are identified

and addressed. Each of us is unique and has unique needs.

Fibromyalgia is a biochemical disorder, and these biochemicals affect the

whole body. You can’t have Fibromyalgia only in your back or your hands.

You either have it all over or you don’t have it at all. If you have localized

complaints, they are probably not caused by FMS, although it may be ampli-

fying the local symptoms from another cause."
