I get the chest pain too. Mine was the first sign years ago that I had fibro. But at the time I did not know what Fibromyalgia. I got sent from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what was causing the pain. I even had one jerk of a doctor push on my chest, I was in so much pain I cried out when he did it. He told me I was just young and embarressed (sp?) and that it did not really hurt!

I think the chest is a common symptom of fibro. I know I usually get it. But then as much pain that we get its hard to keep track of what is hurting.

I have ended up in urgent care several times due to chest pain. I could hardly move without screaming out in pain each time. I was always diagnosed with chest wall inflamation.

Well, now that you all have described the chest pain as being like a heart attack I too can add to the list. I didn't know this was part of the fibro thingy. My chest pain is more lke a squeeze type pain. I can being doing nothing just sitting and all of a sudden reach for something as an example I was in church one day. I dropped my program and reached to pick it up. The squeezeing pain hit me and took my breathe away. I doubled over in pain. The man behind me thought I was having a heart attack and allerted my husband. That scared him and my daughter who was sitting in front of me. They wanted to call an ambulance but, i told them know that this has happened to me before and just to give me a few minuted first. All the time it as hard to speak to them and to relax at the same time. Finally they let me quit talking for enough time to relax. The muscle eased up and the pain went away.

Then I could explain to them that this had happened several times at home I had just never told anyone about it. I was afraid it had been a heart attack at first but from what I had read if it was a heart attack the pain would not go away it would continue to get worse.

Anyway the they insisted that I go to the va hospital and have this checked out. I did and beleive me they ran ever kind of test you can think of even a chemical stress test. My heart is strong, my arteries are clear, no problem could they find that would cause such pain in my chest as I described it.

Had I gone anywhere other than the va it would have cost me over 20,000 dollars for the amount of test they did on me. That should tell you just how many different test they did.

Now that I look back on it and after hearing what you all told me about your chest pains I see what the problem really was. This was just another part of Fibromyalgia. Atleast now I know not to worry about it. The drs. had no idea what caused the chest pains so, I was left with still wondering why or what happened to cause these. Not I understand and thank you for posting your information.

See we do really help each other here. Thanks again! One more problem solved. lololololol

Well many try to tell you it is not a progressive disease however, it is. Ask anyone that has it. duh!

Many of us have had this for years but, until it got us down where we could not really do daily things we didn't notice it. Till the pain and muscles got so, bad that our jobs and home work just got to much for us we just wrote it off as being either lazy or worry worts.

Beleive me we are neither. This thing is real. It does get worse in time. It is how we deal with it that makes the difference. It is what dr. we go to that can also, make the difference. What medicine we take that makes the difference.

Age can also, make a difference and what other problems we have health wize. Usually people that have other things wrong with them have the worse problems dealing with fibro. The combinations makes it harder for drs. to give the best medicines too.

Many drs. just want to send you for physical therpy and that is just not the answer for those of us that have spinal problems like me. I have a disease of the spine which criples me and I have to use a wheelchair so, fibro just adds more problems to that one. not only is there a bone problem but, a muscle one too.

Therpy just makes it all worse.

Well, I guess we all just have to use what ever we can to get by and listen to the drs. to what ever degree we know our bodies can use. Drs. do not know our bodies as well as we know them.

Listen to your body!

good luck!

I too have had major chest pain. Sometimes it hurts when I breathe in. I have discussed the situation with my doctor's and they have all came to the same conclusion: Costochondritis. I was told by one doctor that he has seen costochondritis in his fibro patients. Since my heart is fine this is the only explaination that seems to make sense to me.

The pain comes and goes. There is not a certain thing that seems to set off the pain. It is random.

Good luck to you!

sending you peace and harmony

Yes, I get terrible colds about every 3 months and they last about 4 weeks. Last year it turned into Pneumonia.

I get the chest pain in the muscle behind my breasts. I believe it's called costeochondritis and is very common among FM sufferers. This can really bite when reaching or lifting.

Do you get the shooting pain up your left breast also? I've talked to a lot of woman with FM that get this strange thing as well. Only on the left side.

I too get costochondritis and I first thought I was having a heart attack and went to the ER. They determined it was pleurisy and I was given antibiotics and a steroid shot. Went to my famiy dr. because it wasn't getting any better and he determined it was costocondritis as well as my dr. I see for FM. He told me to take Omega fish oil tablets and that would help and it's good for heart health as well. Since doing this I haven't had as severe chest pain as I had been having for a lengthy period of time.
