Hi all, I just had a question,

Last Saturday I was started on Neurontin/Gabapentin, and my Dr. is starting me off at 200 mg. at night, for 5 days and increasing by 100 mgs as needed. At the same time I am being weaned off Topomax. So far I haven't has side effects, not that they have had time to kick in...lol My question is has anyone had success from this medication?

She was considering Lyrica, but my insurance won't cover it, so we are starting with this, I certainly don't expect any miracles, I am nervouse about getting my migraines back, the Topomax has been great for me for that. And I know that Neurontin can have some bad side effects for some.

But I was hoping that the positive would out weight the negative. I'm new to the whole fibro thing and trying to think positive...I know that moat of you have tried almost everything...so you will be honest with me.

So far it helps me fall asleep, of course I'm on trazodone too so that doesn't hurt, and I feel a little less achey in the AM, but not much, and I'm still achey all day??

Thank in advance for your responses!

I use Neurontin. It first wass used for getting rid of migraines. It helped the migraines and the fibro. I dont have side effects from it. Hope you do well on it also. I had to go up a lot to help get pain under control. Ive used 2400mgs now for 2 months and am not getting side effects yet. Good luck

I was on Lyrica first and the side effects were awful so my GP put me on Neurontin. We started with 100mg. the first wk, 200 mg, the second week and 300mg the third week. As far as I can tell we may have to up the dosage and my legs swell. I just got back from Dallas late last night and I was in so much pain I wasn't worried about any dosage. I took what I needed and took it again this morning and I'm much better now. The one thing that I do worry about is the numbness in my fingers. Good luck with the Neurontin, Beach Bum

Hello BeachBum I use Gabapentin and like singingangel have no side effects from it at all. My doc justraised my levels to 3600mgs a day and my pain is less. The numbness in your fingers grannytaz is probably from fibro, there is another thread on here all about numbness and tingling in our bodiesthat migh be helpful to you. Good luck with the Neurontin/Gabapentin Beach Bum hope it helps your pain.
May life always bring you laughter.

I've been on Gabapentin 3 years, and at first it was great and helped so much. But then it didn't help much and made me foggiER and now I only take if I am crying w/ pain (like last night) but what it did last night was amplify that 'flu-like' feeling all over. Other than that, I never noticed any derogitory side effects.

I NOTICED A DIFFERENCE IN THE PAIN IN MY FEET AND ANKLES AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER STARTING GABAPENTIN. I TAKE 300MG 4 TIMES PER DAY. AT MY NEXT DR VISIT I THINK THAT WE MAY BE INCREASING IT SOME TO SEE MORE BENEFITS BUT SO FAR IT WORKS WELL.

I found that Gabapentin initially took some of the edge off the pain, but no longer works. I have one doc telling me to quit taking it and the other doc that keeps forgetting to increase the dosage. I am sure that if it was raised, it would help again. In all honesty, it just doesn't make that much of a difference to risk the side effects. The only adverse effect I seem to have had in the past is that it actually keeps me awake.

My doctor gave me Lyrica but it gave me very bad migraines, so he put me on the gabapentin and I seem to be doing much better with this. This is only 2 weeks ago, so I'll have to tell you in a month or so what the real deal is!
