MDJunction to me

Macv"For me, MDjunction has been a place where I can share my experiences
living with the very rare bone disease called Ollier's ( Enchondromatosis ) with the parents of children recently diagnosed. I can help them not to run
into the pitfalls my parents did when I was young, give them a bit of a view
from their child's perspective and simply be there to offer support and
hope to people who are scared and just had their lives upended. I also belong to a chronic pain group and it's been a Godsend to be able to actually
talk with others who understand what I'm dealing with. Besides them helping me through my tough times, I can be there to help them as well. Here too, I can use my years of experience to help others avoid pitfalls and it makes me feel good, gives my life more purpose. MDjunction brings people
together when their suffering, at their darkest and feeling alone in this world and allows some light to be brought back into their lives. HOPE, that's what
MDjunction means to me!

Has anyone heard of or used alkaline water? I've heard a couple of people raving about it lately and am debating trying it. One person told me that they have a friend that was "cured" of their fibro symptoms after drinking it for a month. I'm pretty skeptical but honestly up for anything at this point.

Any thoughts or experience with alkaline water?

I've heard through my anatomy and physiology class that more basic, alkaline, water is healthier for the body's cells and slows the growth of cancerous cells. I don't know how much truth there is to that though.
Meds:
Geodon 160mgs daily
Tegratol 300mgs daily
Klonopin 1-2mgs prn
Synthroid .100mcg daily
Protonix 20mg daily
Hydrocodone 5/350mg prn

Probably the only way any of us knows if a treatment option is going to help us is to try it. I've read - and experienced - that Fibro folks are very sensitive to meds & supplements of any type. So if I'm trying something different, I always start low & slow.

Sometimes with things like herbs/lifestyle changes/supplements, nothing seems to have changed much: no pain or fatigue reduction. But then when I stop, the pain & fatigue suddenly go up. Sometimes that's the only way I know the supplement or action was helping.

And yes, I did try an alkalinizing diet & water for about 6 mo, several years ago. Didn't notice much difference either when I was doing it or after I stopped. But that was me; we're all different.

Happy experimenting!

There is no research on alkaline water and Fibromyalga. For people who may suffer from GERD or other digestive problems, alkaline water has been shown to offer some relief.

Some people suggest that alkaline water should help based on the belief that Fibro is an autoimmune disease, but there is no research to back that up.

Alkaline water should be seen as a healthy lifestyle choice, not as a medicine.

I use a 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (alkaline) in a cup of water to fix indigestion and heart burn. It reacts with the acid in the stomach to form water, salt, and carbon dioxide, which you belch up. I wouldn't do this ALL the time, as too much salt water can REALLY throw off your electrolyte balance in your body. And at that concentration is WAY stronger than the alkaline water that's being talked about here. But for those emergency, I'm going to die if this stomach burn doesn't stop... it's a great antacid. For long term use for stomach acid, you're better off with catnip tea. (Catnip is a mint, like spearmint or peppermint.) Any mint blend will do, but catnip's best for anything to do with the stomach, including colic in infants.

You know Catnip tea stayed in my house when kid were younger. It is funny how Dr don't want you to use this for babies anymore. They want to make money plus give the pharm a little cut on the side. Some young mother don't want you to give to there babies. I'm saying it did not hurt my kids or grands. They don't get sick often, guess immune system is tough. Nor did it hurt me. But hate to say it if you came at me with the stuff now. You would have a fight on your hands.

Ginger is my favorite fast fix for an upset stomach. Tea and capsules seem to help best.
