At this time, my neurontin is making my legs swell just like the Lyrica did. I don't the other side effects with the Neurontin that I did with the Lyrica but I don't have the pain relief either. My dr told me this morning that WE will continue on the neurontin for another week then well just stop it. And this is going to help how? I don't just stop anything. I wean, but what is out there to take the place of these two drugs? I already take Tramadol (Ultram)but I thought it was for sleep. I cut back to one capsule of the Neurontin last night instead of the two for this week, and next week is suppose to be three 100mg. capsules at bedtime. I had a headache this morning that almost made me sick. I wonder if it was because I cut the Neurontin? I'm just a mess right now and don't know what to do. He said that the fluid in my legs would not go to my heart. He wants me to stop seeing the rheumatologist, but I don't feel right about that. I don't feel right about just stopping a drug either. Any body got any ideas? I just want to cry today.

I'm not sure I can help, but i'll try. I was on neurontin about a year ago. The 2nd day I was on it, I was almost pain free. Then after another week, it stopped working {like everything else} So it was increased. I couldn't stay awake and got restless leg syndrome so I stopped it. Now I am on Lyrica and my percocets and oxy and soma {muscle relaxer} The Lyrica Ive only been on for 2 weeks. making me really foggy. I do okay on lower doses of meds, but as soon as they get increased, the side effects start. I hope I helped in some way.

That sounds about like me with the foggy part. I broke two toes on my right foot because I lost my balance and the chair won the fight. I couldn't remember words or how to spell and I gained 7lbs. in two weeks, but I was pain free......so which way do ya turn? I just have lost all hope for now. I have to go to Denton TX this weekend and don't know if I can ride in a car that long. My father in law has lung cancer so I will be around quite a few people including kids and I don't know if my mood is going to hang with me with the pain I feel. It's hard to be nice sometimes when your in pain. Thanks for writing though. GTaz

You are are right Aquarian, when I travel, in addition to my personal pharmacy, I also take my special pillows, comforter and ultra large heating pad with me! It has made the difference between enjoying - or at least surviving - the trip, or living a painful nightmare. I also have to take plenty of rest breaks to get out and stretch and walk around while driving or riding in the car to keep my muscles from cramping up. Good luck granny, I hope your trip goes well!

Thanks Aquarian and Hipmama, in a small SUV I might just ride in the back. Pain meds aren't working so I still don't know what to do about that. Hope this depression doesn't stay with me or it will be an unpleasant trip.

grannytaz,

I hope your trip isn't to unpleasant, maybe you could ride in the back of the suv.

Is your doctor going to try you on other meds?

I take Keppra 750 in am & 750 in pm, it works a little differently on the central nervous system for pain.

My neurologist prescribes it, it's an antizeizure med like neurontin but different.

maybe your doc could try that or topomax?

I hope you can get something to help - I know first hand that tramadol doesn't work - but hey if you take 2 50mg tablets at once it will help you get a nap in maybe

when I have gone on trips- hard ones, like when my mother died last June, or longer trips {5-6 hours} to help someone, or when I just have something to go thru and know I'm gonna pay dearly and feel it, it usually takes afew days to hit. Afterwards I feel, wow, you got thru it and your okay, but then in a few days it hits, and it hits hard, often for a few weeks. I guess I'm thankful that I have the strenght to handle whatever comes my way, and it wont hurt till later?! oh, the little things we become grateful for...

I have no idea if he is going to try some other med or not. I have cut myself back to one-100mg. capsule of the neurontin at night instead of two. I may try it a little longer but if the swelling and weight gain continues I'll get off of it by weaning not cold turkey. I see him before I see my rheumy so heaven only knows what can happen between dr. visits.

Our trip has been postponed until next Friday so now I can get new tires for the car and get everything together to go unless something happens between now and then. I need to get my head together for this 10 hr. trip. I just hope my body holds out.
