What a bunch of freaking idiots. As though life is not hard enough as it is. "Chronic Complainers"!! I am so petrified that it is all in my head that I have on several ocassions gone off all medications including my lupus meds just to test my body. Guess who paid the price for that? Me. No more will I, nor should any of us, allow a bunch of ignorant a***** to invalidate our pain either physical or emotional. I would love to know who the author of this article is. I believe we should run him and his contributors up a pole. Stay strong my friends.

Ok I did a search for the title of that article and I found it listed on a website called women dentists journal. I'm not sure what Fibro has to do with dentistry but here's the link, I'm going to keep looking, we have a right to be heard too.

oh you guys, this is just making me feel sicker and more stressed than ever, especially after just reading the NY Times article quoting the doctor who supposedly researched and defined the symptoms of fibromyalgia now having "changed his mind" and believing that actually it does not exist. It was the exact same thing in that article, calling us all "chronic whiners" and that most people are able to "adapt and move on."

Except for on here, I rarely complain to anyone about how lousy I feel most of the time, or use fibro as an excuse to get out of stuff. I tend to isolate and go into hiding when I'm in a bad flare like I am now.

First of all, I don't like to dwell on it when I'm out and about around normal people, and secondly, I realize that most normal people will not "get it" anyhow, and some will be downright rude about it or dismiss me as one of those chronic complainers. In fact, I used to be one of those "normal" people myself. So....I only really feel comfortable venting on here. Thank God for you guys! I am so glad I found this site!

I remember a time when the male docs all thought menstrual cramps were all in our heads too, and it wasn't so very long ago.

I'm afraid that until some definitive test exists to diagnose fibro, we are going to continue to have to deal with these hostile, negative disbelievers. I'm going to have to take a break from reading this cr** because just thinking about it makes me stress out, and knowing that ignorance like this is everywhere around us and that I'm powerless to change it. I have enough problems just dealing with what is on my plate each day. But I do wish I could just say "beam them up Scottie!" lol.

That's a great graphic, I love it!

Hipmamma if it is any consolation to you I have been searching the web trying to find this article listed so I could find the author, well it's all over the net but not once are the author's name or credentials attatched.

That speaks volumes to me, this is nothing more than some idiot's oppinion, and they were not even brave enough to give a name. Therefore it may be dissmissed as the missinformation that it is.

So just forget about it and take solace in the fact that a large portion of the medical community do believe, we just have to find them.

The syndrom is real, the symptoms are real, and we will not be dismissed out of hand.

Here's an excellent quote I find on one of the sites written by a doc who treats a lot of CFS/FMA patients:

"...This disease is humbling. One must remember what a famous French physician said a year ago, Jean Martin Charcot: "DISEASE IS VERY OLD AND NOTHING ABOUT IT HAS CHANGED. IT IS WE WHO CHANGE AS WE LEARN TO RECOGNIZE WHAT FORMERLY HAS BEEN IMPERCEPTIBLE."

In the "good old days" of medicine, doctors were forced to treat the symptoms and take it on observation and intuition that patients had this or that illness or disease. There were no lab tests or microbial studies to PROVE a person was suffering from a given disease, but those docs did not say to their patients "your pain is all in your head you lazy, malingering whiner!" Today's docs have to have "PROOF" and if they can't see it they don't believe it. Very arrogant indeed. Charcot nailed it on the head I believe.

this is an interesting article about CFID/FMS which contains that quote, unfortunately, they did not name the doctor who wrote the article. I think he/she might be on to something.

I hate stupid people but I guess life wouldn't be hard if it was easy and it's not supposed to be easy! Love you all. Keep positive thoughts and know that you are loved!

Oh yeah, ignore the stupid people. When they realize they are wrong the humiliation will be enough.

Hi everyone,

I havent been online since the day I started this thread. I just read all the responses and I see I am not alone in the anger (nor did I think I would be). HOWEVER...... I feel bad!! If I had given myself some time after reading this off the yahoo group to the time I posted it here, I may have thought twice about posting it! I feel like I may have caused all of you stress and anger I could have saved you had I just kept the article to myself! I am sorry!

Having said that, can I vent now? lol I had to go to my primary doctor today just for followup and because I have an ear infection . BECAUSE of this article, I wanted soooo badly to ask him if he thinks I am a chronic complainer who might be bringing on the pain myself. (I should say I didnt ask him only because I knew Id cry if I did, but he's a wonderful man and I know without question that he would have answered with a resounding NO!) BECAUSE I have questioned my own sanity, I have pressed on the wonderful pressure points to see if I really do have pain... and trust me, I DO!! lol

Anyhow, again, I am very sorry! I hope I didn't make anyone upset with me for posting this article

Cath
