Has anyone experienced being on medication and it helping with pain, having it decrease......and then all of a sudden, severe pain is back, like the medication is not working?

Is this possible??

I feel like I'm going through this now - for the last 3-4 weeks, gradually but it's been consistent, and I had a break down yesterday bc it was THAT bad. I'm on Savella, been on it for about 5 months, maybe 4.

I did make a sooner appt with my doc bc I can't wait til Oct.

Im sorry

yes this is very probable, for me I become to tolerant of the med I take I also take a diffrent assortment of meds..you might call and see if his nurse will call you in a pain med till you see him..

meds seem to have to be adjusted alot.when you take them long term I myself have to switch mine up alot because they stop working..

but call you docs office and see if they wont call you in something..

we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

Hi, Lovebug...happened with me this past month. I got a new precription of generic oxy and found after a couple of days it wasn't working. According to discussions with my doc, pharmacist and other online posts, generics made overseas are losing their potency due to fillers and additives and there is no oversight. I eventually got back in with my pain doc, who swapped my prescriptions for ones where name brand (Percocet) is required. Did you refill your pain meds recently. My doc's PA said they had 5 complaints like mine over a two week period. Could this be a problem? I am so very sorry you are in pain, my friend. Prying for a fast relief!

I too have had this happen to me. And I have read many postings where other members have shared this problem with us.

Its a shame for us that we have to be dealt with this on top of all of the many problems we have.

I hope you can find some answers to this very important problem. Take care.

I went to your homepage and saw you are from Bridgeport, CT. Have you by any chance had to deal with stress connected to the storm? I haven't heard anything about your area so I don't know. If you have been be aware that emotion stress can cause a real flare in fibromites and most of us that have dwelt with hurricanes on a regular basis find their approach is really very physically painful because of the weather changes.

Thank you all for these comments.

I did refill my prescription August 1st. and the hurricane did pass through us, but didn't damage anything...I actually didn't find out about the hurricane til a few days before it happened, and my pain has been consistent for the last month.

Today I can move better than yesterday, but I've been very tired/feeling blah, and I wasn't like that back in June...so I'm just speechless!

The only "stress" is my job - I've been there 4 yrs and I've been ready to leave, but I haven't yet.

I don't last long on any med and it keep any efficacy at all. The ones I've been on have little to no efficacy to begin with for me, but even that runs out very quickly. It's possible that the med has changed manufacturers(your pharmacist would know that but with it being new probably not), that you're having a flare that the meds can't handle, or that it's loosing it's efficacy. Even though you can't actually get in to see your dr till Oct(get on a cancellation list), see if you can leave him/her a message for them to call you back explaining what is going on. They may be able to do something based off the phone call or make the decision to squeeze you in. Either way it's worth a shot.

Well a lot of people build up a tolerance to medications, and they often need to be increased/or adjusted. It may be time for an increase. Talk with your DR. about this, and see if that is possible. Or you may be having a flare up,and it may pass and your pain levels may go back to normal. All in all,I hope you feel better soon!

Yes Lovebug. I'm like that with all medications so far. I never get too excited right away because now I know that it's not worth it. My latest pill (Cesamet) took away 100% of my pain the first week then the pain came creeping back up. It's not as painful as it was without the medication and it's the med that's worked the best for me so far but the pain is definitely back. It's like the medication can trick my brain for a week or two then the pain is like ''HA HA I figured out how to come back! Get ready for fun!'' Stupid pain!
I am not a medical doctor. Anything said on here is my personal opinion. Seeking help from a health professional is always for the best!

** I have a broad knowledge about psychoactive medications and the mind since I have studied psychology/therapy. Any information that I give concerning any medication is to be considered generic since everyone reacts slightly differently to any foreign substance. I do not fully know your health history/case. Any suggestion that I made which peaked your interest MUST be discussed with your doctor. Do NOT change your medication intake based on any information which was not provided by your doctor. All that we can offer on MDJ is suggestions to discuss with your physician.
