Hi all-

Are most of you taking some kind of SSRI antidepressant? I've been on Lexapro for 3 years after the last bad flare-up. I was severely depressed and anxious and it did help with those symptoms.

Anyway I really hate taking antidepressants. I was on the max dose of 20mg a few years ago but for the last few years went down to 10mg. I am on a new insurance plan and lexapro is the most expensive med. I take. I have been only taking 5mg for about 3 weeks but to be honest I can tell the difference

I feel more moody and irritable and slightly depressed. I just got married and I know some of this is getting put on my husband.

It sucks feeling the NEED to live on one of these meds but I guess my body is used to it now and I may need some low dose something.

Celexa is now generic and price-wise would be better. I know Lexapro is a more purier form of Celexa and has less side effects.

Any insight? I was hoping I could do ok with the 5mgs of Lexapro but if I am being honest with myself the reduction is affecting me emotionally.

thanks- meleggs

I was prescribed lexapro but insurance has to approve it. I was hoping it came in generic. Doesnt it come in generic? It looked to me when I looked it up that it did. Can someone tell me?

Lexapro is not generic yet. Celexa, Prozac and Paxil are generic and on the 4$ list at walmart You have to check to see which doses for sure. Zoloft is also generic but not on the 4$ list. I personally take the Paxil CR which does not have a generic yet either. Hope the info helps

Snoopy is right- NO generic for lexapro but since it is made from celexa most insurances want you to take that.

I really liked lexapro because other than occasionally getting a little sweaty about and hour after I take it- no other side effects.

I take Lexapro faithfully. Lexapro has gotten me through more than a few days that without it, I would have been a total wreck and embarrassing myself by crying at inappropriate times (@ work). My primary care doc has provided me with samples since my last major, major, never-had-it-so-bad before flare back in October when I started a new job. Since I don't have insurance and she wants me to stay on it, she keeps giving me a months worth at a time. She's not a good Fibro doc or a good pain management doc, but she is very good about giving out the samples that she gets. Maybe your doc could do that for you so you can take the preferred one? Even if they allowed you to get samples every other month, that would still be 6 months that you didn't have to pay for it. Some physicians are really serious about their patients taking the medications they want them to.
