I've never been under the impression with either my old rheumy or my new rheumy that there were any results that were shown in bloodwork for fibro. I've always been told and I've always read in my research that fibro is diagnosed by excluding other diagnoses, and these other conditions (RA, lyme, lupus, MS, etc) are the ones that actually show up in the bloodwork or radiology.

I'm an Advocate

I have never had ANA testing ...at least not as far as I know.

Rhuemy did say last time I was there that ""next time we might do a little more extensive blood work to rule out other possibilities"" if I m complaining of the same things again.

well yes ANA is for antibodies. My grandmother had lupus so the death certificate states. I know she had fibromyalgia, She suffered much the same as I do but I don't think she was ever diagnosed. She pasted away when I was 15 so its hard to say if it was because of the year or not.

Anyway, I didnt think that anything came back abnormal for fibromyalgia either. And there was question as to weather or not I had lupus but because I never had a butterfly rash they say no. I read that only 50 percent of the paitents had a rash though. but I am proboble asking the wrong people just running off in thought.

I also understand that you can't detect fibro in blood tests. ANA is the test for lupus and mine has been positive also. I haven't been fully given the lupus diagnosis because I also don't have the butterfly rash. When we do blood tests to check how all the meds I take are working on my liver and kidneys, we have the ANA checked to see if it increases. Luckily it hasn't.
