Jeerie, are you allergic to band-aids, medical tape or anything else with an adhesive? I am highly allergic to adhesives and have reactions that sound a lot like yours. I've been allergic to a lot of different medications, mostly pain relievers. Now there is a note in my chart that if I HAVE to have opioids, they need to start me with a tiny dose and see what I can tolerate. I think these "sensitivities" are part of Fibro. How about soaps, perfumes, dyes, fabrics, etc...any sensitivities there?

Sleepwalking,

Thanks so much for posting this!! I've already begun sharing it because I know of so many people who have this condition and can't get the meds they need. Hopefully they can share this with their drs to "educate" them and use it as a good opener for dialogue about the help they need!

Thanks for the suggestions Marilyn, I'll look into them. Lidocaine scares me now though because of the issues I had with the lidoderm patches. I don't know if injections would be different or possibly cause the same problems.(itching and burning - BAD - at the sites I had them, followed by bad dizziness, lightheadedness and headache.)

Rayne, I've never ever had an issue with bandaids or other adhesives. I do have rosacea and have had to use more gentle products like makeup and moisturizers on my face, but never had as much problems with sensativity on the rest of my body. I've also been given other meds in the past without a problem. Only thing I found out earlier in life that I couldn't take was Vicodin...took it once for pain and my mom was flipping out I was so messed up. Pupils dilated big-time, staring into space, dizzy as heck...ended up going to bed while we had company and sleeping it off the rest of the night. I have never had any sensativities to meds except Sulfa based products which give me almost instant heartburn sensations and metallic taste in my mouth that just gets worse the longer I take it.

Vicodin is basically synthetic codeine and most people are allergic (or sensitive to) codeine. My allergist told me that since so many people are allergic to codeine, they use it as the control drug while doing scratch testing in the UK. I get the same reaction to vicodin as I do codeine.
