My doctor tried to get me to a pain management specialist and they would not take me because I have FM. My primary is the doctor that is treating for FM and he is giving me the narcotics, the pain management doctor told my doctor he does not even give out narcotics anymore. He explained the whole thing today and I am going to a FM specialist in May 2009, who will have a name of a pain management doctor that will see I am sure. I guess it is who your doctor is and where it is you live.

I'm shocked that a Pain Management Specialist would not see you because you have a pain disorder like Fibro. Sorry that you were connected with such a sorry excuse for a pain specialist. Good luck with the next one. They really can be a great source of help for Fibro sufferers. Hopefloats

Janie,

You do what is best for you. If you do decided to try for SSD, just remember that if you have a lawyer they will do all the work (at least they should) and most people are not turned down if they have a lawyer. Good Luck-Keep Strong-Hopefloats

hello sleepless! I suffer from insomnia too, along with the Fibro, pinched nerves and bonspurs on the spine,I don't take controlled meds because of an addiction matter, but as far as OTC meds to help promote sleep without morning after hangovers I found two (not taken at the same time tho) that really does the job,,,UNISOM

( the blue tablets work better than the liquigels do )

OR AlkaSeltzer Nighttime.

Or a family doc can rx you Ambien, or non-narcotic night remedy, I think you need something for sure if you've tried his advice and it's still not working

Wishing you the best ((( HUGZ))) and alot of

ZZZZZZZ's

Hello Jaime, and welcome to the group.

You know, I hear about doctors who say things like this and I just want to look them in the eye and say (pardon me) "Well, no shit, Sherlock!"

What do they think we are, idiots? It just infuriates me so. I mean, really...try telling me something I don't know. It really makes you wonder how they got their licenses or where they got their training.

And you're right...if you could have done all that by yourself, you wouldn't be there. This is another "duh" factor. I hate it they can be so damned demeaning.

Sorry, but this one just touched a nerve for me. I am fortunate that my doctor does prescribe narcotics, but he is my second doctor, referred to me by an actress friend who fights chronic pain. My first one didn't believe in narcotics either.

Stepping off my little soapbox now and marching over to Barb to get my mouth washed out.

Wow! I didn't realize how lucky I was. I have a wonderful pain management doctor that not only writes me scripts for pain meds- Narcotics, but he also scolds me for not taking enough. I am worried about the whole addiction thing. I am a nurse and I don't treat myself well. Anyway, I signed a pain contract with him that I wouldn't get narcotics from anyone else. I was even afraid to tell him I was on ultram ER. Well, I am on lyrica too. 500mg a day. Do you know that it is a controlled substance and has to be signed off on by the pharmasist that fills the perscription? I read it on the bottle the last time it was filled.

As for affording meds. I get samples as much as I can. I am on 13 perscribed meds and the co-pays are over 250.00 per month. I call around to the offices and see if they have any samples. There should always be samples of lyrica and started packs of ultram ER. There is also a coupon for ultran that saves 25.00 a refill for three refills. There are alot of drug rep that visit the offices. If you let you doc know you are having problems, maybe he can talk with he drug rep to get you some. I also applied for free lyrica for a year. It was on one of the drug assistance web-sites. I am waiting to see if we get it. I hope so because I ran out and didn't have it for three days this week and I suffered.
