Hmm, that is encouraging. I'll have to try it and see if it helps. It is certainly worth a shot!

Kat, I was worried about being sleepy during the day, too, but that hasn't happened. I wonder if a single 300mg dose at bedtime would work for the FM. My husband takes 200 at bedtime, not for FM, but for the other problems that 5-htp can help with, and has had no ill effects.

Hi all,

I was told about 5-HTP last week so have been researching it. I'm glad i saw this post, just got to track it down now. Does anyone take Melatonin with it? Is this allowed?

Yeah, I'd really like everybody to react the same, at least to this one med. I definitely don't get gas from it, and it's surprising to me that others complain of gas from 5 HTP. My husband, who is as prone to gas as most men seem to be, doesn't get gas from it either. He takes it to relieve anxiety at night, so he can sleep.

And the current count is, I've lost 6.5 pounds, and the stupid stomach paunch has all but disappeared. I was 138.5 about six weeks ago, and now I'm a steady 132. Without trying or noticing that I'm eating less. It seems to make me feel full before I've licked the plate clean. My size 6 fits again!!! Before, I was heading toward size 10!

Please forgive me for being a little behind, but I don't even know what 5-HTP is? I am concerned though. Does it interfere with your other meds?

If anyone thinks it doesn't cause gas for me, come for a visit. We will get to really know each other that way.

5-htp is something found in various foods. You can get it in any drug store or order it online. It seems to help some fm sufferers. We ordered about 200 tabs for about $70, 100 mg. I take 300mg/day, and I'm thrilled with the improvement.

Barb, I totally believe you.
