So, I have been seeing doctors for years and they are finally starting to tell me that I am out of options and that we have tried everything, everything being a plethora or medications, massage, acupuncture, swimming, TENS units, PT, OT, you name it... I have probably done it. It leads me to wonder if I really do have fibro. I mean I don't have wide spread muscle pain. I have pain from nerves being pinched in my spine and all of my symptoms match with the discs that are herniated. Also, I am able to handle a deep tissue massage for over an hour. I am told that people with fibro have a very hard time with things like that and I was just wondering what some other people's experiences are like. The trigger point check for fibro is kind of a joke with me, I mean are the points tender, I guess, but nothing that makes me just out of my skin, and I feel like if I could relieve some tension that much of that tenderness would go away. I don't know... I rant on.

If anyone has any suggestions for what to try (lol yeah, I am considering the marijuana) let me know. I am at my wit's end and so apparently, are my doctors... maybe I need new ones.

Thanks,

Emily

I tried all of the prevenative meds unsucessfully too, they either had a negative side effect or were just not effective enough for me, massages hurt, when they were gentle enough I felt great for 20 minutes! What good is that? It was a waste of time and that was just my back anyway. So here I am just taking pain meds and muscle relaxers for my pain. It doesnt mean you dont have Fibro it just means the treatments you tried through trial and error didnt cut it. It was the same with me but there is no doubt I have Fibro, 4 Rheumys that specialize in it and 5 Neurologists consider me to have a severe case. I see a PM Doc for my pain meds and am at least a little more comfortable, I could probably be alot more comfortable but I dont want to increase the narcotics I am taking. I am satisfied with where I am and will stick with it. I wsh you the best of luck. Stacey Wink

Seeing so many Dr.'s and having no solution can be frustrating. I sympathize. I began massage therapy over two years ago, before I was diagnosed, just because of pain. It hurt like crazy for a while to have this five-foot two little woman give me a deep tissue massage. Then I would suffer pain for a few days after. I still hurt when she gives a massage, but nothing like in the past. I just had to stick with it.

I also have a herniated disc. That can cause lots of nerve pain. Have you tried a chiropractor? If you find one who uses an activator instead of manual manipulation, it won't hurt nearly as much. I wish you all the best. Don't give up on finding a solution. It might be just around the corner...

A deep tissue massage???? Oh my Lord! Yikes! I would never get one of those, how can you stand that with Fibro? I have 2 gift certificates for massages so I am going to use them but they will be told to be as gentle as possible, it probably wont even be a massage when I am done it will be like one of my kids rubbing my back LOL Tongue

Ha-ha, make sure someone drives you home! The first time I had it done, I drove my car into the garage and right in to the wall! Like I said, it hurt quite a lot for a while to have the massages, but eventually my muscles seemed to loosen up. Now, if I stop having them I get very achy. You could try hot stone therapy. Never had it but it looks quite relaxing. Just tell your therapist that if she hurts you too much, you'll give her a knuckle sandwich! Angry

LOL I will too I will say oops sorry it must be my relexes acting up haha, I am too sensitive to heat from my MS so if the stones are hot hot I wouldnt be able to handle that either lol. I used to get massages all the time they were just gentle ones and didnt last long afterwards. I am worse now so who knows if it will benefit me at all at least the room is relaxing at the spa Tongue

I do that at the hair salon. For some reason I get sleepy as soon as I set in the chair.

I can relate to that Miss Stacey LOL...I used to get massages back a million years ago and the rooms were so incredibly relaxing...soft music, pleasant scents, candles and soft lights...I wanted to live there.
